Agreed.. I might feel differently if our HC was an offensive minded one. But we need experience at OC since he won’t be getting help from HC
NO is a hot mess plain and simple. They’re in cap he’ll every year and have the oldest team in the NFL iirc. Plus, Mickey Loomis is apparently the Trent Baalke of the NFC.
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sp...coordinator-jeff-nixon-interview-20059472.php The Houston Texans interviewed Syracuse offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon to replace Bobby Slowik, a person with knowledge of the talks confirmed. The Texans also interviewed their quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson. The Texans were grooming Johnson to succeed Slowik, allowing him to call plays during the preseason.
This is an excellent overview and analysis of the whole Slowik tenure. This is not on the fans and their "unrealistic" expectations. This is about the actual results on the field. The defense shined; the offense struggled. Especially in year two.
Agreed with this post. But just because CJ didn't get along with him doesn't mean he cant relate to players. With that said, it was time to move on from Bobby.
To think that last offseason folks were concerned Slowik was going to be leaving because he’d get a Head Coaching job offer. Yet, here we sit today seeing that he depart because he was fired.
NFL = Not For Long if you get too comfy. Bring in some fresh blood. No retreads. No in house. New ideas. New vision. Innovate.
Ryan Day is a great offensive mind. He was struggling with some of the HC duties so they decided to give up his play-calling. Stroud didn’t like him (Kevin Wilson), went to Day for help, Day resumed playcalling for playoffs where CJ went off. Fast forward, Ryan Day still couldn’t handle all the work, so they hire an OC with more experience to call plays for him in Chip Kelly. Kelly “knows ball” and they win the Natty. Kevin Wilson went to Tulsa I think. fun facts: Kevin Wilson in Tulsa is 7-16 After moving on from him, Buckeyes hired Bill Obrien as OC (I vomited a little bit in my mouth as a buckeye fan) but then Boston college came calling BOB and the buckeyes went with Chip Kelly!
Jonathan Jones and Kyle Long on Pushing the Pile talk about Chip Kelly being the hottest name on the NFL coaching market.. again “We very well could Kyle. Chip Kelly, going back to when he was at UCLA still had interest in the NFL.. Chip Kelly is not going to be a head coach again in the NFL. Will he be an offensive coordinator in the NFL? I think that suits him quite nicely.. I do know for a fact that he’s at or near the top of multiple teams lists for offensive coordinator. In Jacksonville Liam Coen, however, Liam Coen’s going to be calling offensive plays. I don’t know that Chip Kelly—you bring in Chip Kelly, you better have him call offensive plays. That’s why the Houston Texans make the most sense for Chip Kelly. Having just fired Bobby Slowik, having DeMeco Ryans a defensive head coach who is going to seed complete and full control and authority to his offensive coordinator for the offense, and of course, their background. I mentioned Chip Kelly coaching with the Philadelphia Eagles, DeMeco Ryans played for a time for the Philadelphia Eagles, they know one another. They go back like rock and chairs. So with all of this, you could see this potential union taking place. Wouldn’t be surprised as interviews go on. If it does happen, that it could happen in the next week or so.” [Kyle Long, former player for Chip Kelly at Oregon, gives his bidding]
Before Slowik was fired Lance says they were close. After Slowik is fired, Lance says they may not have gotten along, and their relationship started with a tense argument. Two years of CJ is coachable with no problems and now Lance says he has a history of not listening to his coaches. This is dumb
