No excuses, he was 0-6 when he was hit in the eye. He couldn't get by Brown, meanwhile Amen torches Brown with his considerable bag. Jalen is a good scorer but is not a lead dog. Amen is. DD
I dunno how his eye affected his defense. Cuz he was getting torched out there by Jaylen Brown and Payton Pritchard.
Very happy with JG’s “bad performance”. Passed the ball well. Took mostly good shots. Didn’t dominate the ball. Good players find ways to be effective even on their worst days. JG and Alperen played winning basketball today.
Yeah, I don’t think that’s the case at all, but in any event, if you don’t understand how an injured eye can impact defense, you probably need to get off this forum and go play some pickup games. It’ll be good for your body and soul.
Maybe you’re right. Maybe you’re wrong. Maybe we should all just stop making such idiotically sweeping statements about 22 and 21 year olds and just enjoy the ride.
Jalen absolutely did not have a great game, or even a good game. But he made the right play for the most part in the second half, and took care of the ball. If this is what we can expect from Jalen at his worst then we have a lot to look forward to!
I think that is fair, I like Jalen - like how he is as a player now, a good scorer who can be great at times, there is nothing wrong with that..... DD
He wasn't even injured when he was getting torched. Go watch the first quarter again. Jaylen Brown basically had all their points
Couldn't watch the game that's good to hear. Was happy to see he got to the line 7 times and had 6 assists to 1 or 2 TOs. If the other team is doing everything to stop him, that's exactly what he should do. When we have more respected shooters around, the spacing will improve and it will be more realistic for him to score on these nights. But with the worst spacing in the league against one of the best defenses? Kick-outs and two way safe basketball is the way to go. We have enough people who can win a game.
Amen Thompson is Rafael's best draft pick. Jalen still seems to struggle to get past good defenders and makes turnovers when no one is defending him sometimes, and he waste so much time dribbling.
This is too simplistic. If you graph his performance over the last two years, the mean is heading up and the variance is decreasing. Perimeter scorers will always have poor shooting games - he is having them less often and is doing more to affect winning in his off games. Five years from now he could be MVP, have a bad night, and we’d have people in here saying “Same inconsistent Jalen.” And one guy would be trying to trade him for Corey Brewer’s corpse.
#2 in transition PPP in the NBA #4 in transition EFG% in the NBA Among players scoring over 3 points a game in transition (dozens of players). Has become a transition beast overnight. Amen's passes and ability to keep up so critical to this. Amen and Green are historically good in transition when starting together. Defenses are really trying to do everything they can to limit these two but they can't. We're just bullying people with athleticism essentially. We SHOULD have the best transition offense in NBA history, that's actually realistic with these guys.
Actually nervous about Jalen's second half. If he has a better second half than first, we could be talking about a dynasty here with Sengun/Amen/Green + the 2 best shooters we can afford from Whitmore/Jabari/Eason/Sheppard. All the conversations will shift to beating the Magic, Celtics and Thunder. Man I was telling you guys this team is better than it appears. Do you see what I meant when I say development was held back? We STILL haven't seen the peaks for Sengun, Green, Amen, Tari, Sheppard. Waves of help coming. Honestly I felt crazy at times because most of the board was convinced to death that we just have lesser prospects than everyone else. They have never let me down. 41 wins last season. On the way to 50+ this season. This roster is special. If I had to guess? As long as we get high volume efficient 3PT shooting from the 4 spot, Jalen will have a slightly better second half.
Dude's left eye was swollen and the bandage was damn near in the eye. Patty cake ass players would have sat out. He was connective and more than willing to cede to the hot hands. A prima donna would have "got his" to the detriment of the team.
DD This is going to SHOCK you but in basketball, you are not going to have good games 100% of the time. Brown is a very good player, he's bigger than Jalen, older than Jalen, and more experienced than Jalen. Also, Jalen is 22-23, when Jaylen Brown was that age, before they won in the playoffs and the chip, they were considering trading him. Basketball is about progression and we are ahead of the game. I love, love Amen's game but he has people who give him trouble too....he had problems with Tyler Herro's scoring. But he has to progress too
