The fans were equally frustrated. Slowik's plays were too predictable. If the fans can call them before they happen what do you think the defensive coordinators could do? Reminded me of the BOB era. Also, Slowik didn't seem to be able to adjust on the fly. The offensive line was also a problem, BUT adjustments could have been made there too. I am not talking personnel as much as alignment, shifts, etc. Our tight end can't block. Slowik's news conferences became increasingly defensive. The bottomline, Houston's offense was being out coached by opponents. The offense looked somewhat better in the playoffs, but for most of the season the Texan's looked "constipated."
Not to be condescending... but I believe this is comply with Rooney Rule before hiring CK. Now, I also believe JeJo could stay on as QB coach or Asst OC (maybe both) IF Jets don't poach him. I will do the Jets a solid... they can have JeJo for a big discount on Garrett Wilson (I'll even throw in $$$ Mills)
[Schefter] Lions are working to hire Broncos pass game coordinator Johnny Morton as their offensive coordinator and the coach to replace Ben Johnson, per sources. He is traveling to Detroit to meet with team. Morton worked in Detroit before and could soon be doing it again.
I will be concerned if Johnson is the new OC. Very concerned. In the end he may turn out to be an amazing and successful coach. But, he’s just barely gotten his feet wet in the coaching business. The OC is in charge of ALL of the offense, not just the QB. Johnson has done very little coaching before being hired by the Texans. Many coaches work many years working their way up coaching numerous positions for numerous teams. Once again, Johnson may someday be a great coach, but I want someone who has experience coaching all of the offense.
Interviewing Jerrod could simply be a professional courtesy to someone they like and respect. Maybe they want to give him some experience with the interview process. This Jerrod noise could also just be sports media throwing out an internal name for the sake of generating clicks or having something to write about. Has anyone from the Texans actually said anything about anyone?
Slowik was too predictable, Kelly before him/Pep/BOB/Even Kubiak have been said to have predictable offenses. I expect the next OC will have the same things said about him also. It's a right of passage from fandom.
I said this two years ago when slowik got hired. It doesn’t matter who they hire, fans are going to b**** and complain about the offense.
Social game?…. It’s called Public Relations…. Can’t throw your colleagues and bosses under the bus during a press conference…. So I expected no less from CJ…. It’s the right way to handle it, keep in house….
I have been around football for a long time. Not all offenses are to be compared to Slowik's. I know fans are hard to please, but it wasn't just about the fans with him. He was getting outcoached on a consistent basis. You don't fire one of your best friends without a cause to do so.
It was clear after the Vikings game that Bobby could not match wits with good defensive coordinators. Brian Flores bent him over a barrell and showed him the 50 states. In turn, he also laid a blueprint on how to stop the Texans for the rest of the season - because Slowik was never able to adjust. That's damning. After that game, it was all downhill for the offensive line woes, and in turn, the offense. Don't get me wrong, we were one of the better first drive/first quarter teams, IIRC, which means that Slowik can likely scheme when he has time to prepare. We also had an above average explosive plays count, which means that every now and then, he'd get lucky with a call. But the second half number, and in particular, the third quarter numbers, that were so blatantly obvious to us all, are clear signs that Slowik could not adjust in game, as well. What does this mean? In my opinion, he could potentially be a decent coordinator, but he needs more seasoning. And from the sounds of it, more of an ability to connect with his players.
