If this were true, I could see this as a ploy on Boras part to say, "If you don't sign Bregman, not only would you miss out on his leadership... but he'll bring it to your rival"
Astros: "Bregs, offer still on the table. You interested!" Bregman: "Sure." Astros: "Great, we just cleared room for you to sign." Bregman: "That's nice, however, I still want $200 mil." *pause* Astros: "I wonder what Arenado is up to?"
I would give him and Boras a deadline of Wed and if he hasn't accepted their offer by then I pull it. He's had over two months to see what he has. If he wants to go play for the Rangers have at it. Sounds like a Boras move to use your hated rival as leverage. He either wants to play here or he doesn't.
I mean where would Arenado even play? I would move Altuve for Bregman. Would not for Arenado. Honestly what does Arenado offer that we don't have? I want ascension not decline.
Boras and Bregman are pulling our chains now. Just sign a left handed outfielder and move on already.
Alvarez numbers when playing LF are much better… it’ll be interesting to see his stats next year playing mainly DH , IF we somehow manage to bring back Breggy
I look at the 6/156 deal on the table as a "thank you" for the player Bregman once was....if he wants more than that, pull the offer. The Astros have already replaced him and if there is further spending, it shouldn't be on an infielder.
Like I said before, if I were crane I’d have him out to lunch and tell him how much we loved him. Wanted him to retire an Astro. If he was still good at the end of that 6 years we’d sign him again, if not and he was at retirement he’d always have a place in the org for life blah blah blah. Have Biggio tell him what that’s meant. But I wouldn’t offer him an additional dime/ that offer is clearly generous or he wouldn’t still be holding onto it. I’d tell him I needed his decision the next afternoon because otherwise we needed to move on. Then i’d move on.
I don't think there's a whole lot of difference between the player he is and the one he once was. He has been consistently a 4 WAR player per 150 games throughout and still is. He had the two anomaly MVP level seasons with the juiced balls.
