For those who know ... yeah ... Mrs @No Worries and I got caught in this shameless scam.

One year ago, we bought a laptop for our son at Best Buy.

My credit card's last month statement is sporting a $49.99 charge for ... My Best Buy Plus™ yearly membership.

    F*ckers.

Appears that we received a free year of My Best Buy Plus™ with the purchase of the laptop, which extends the return window by 60 days ... a chance to ride into sunset from here to eternity with My Best Buy Plus™.

So when your business model demands that you scam your customers, then you are officially a ... sh*t ... business and have lost your way. There is zero chance that we will ever shop at Best Buy again. Mission Accomplished, Best Buy.

It’s similar to AT&T requiring you to get their insurance (or prove other insurance) for a new phone, if you get it as an upgrade. At least you can cancel the insurance after 30-days, but they are counting on ppl not doing that.

It has been 10+ years since I have able to understand my ATT mobile bill. Not going to look. Just going to assume that I am paying for insurance for 3 iPhones.

I used to love Best Buy. Now, meh. MicroCenter or Amazon ftw.

Ask for money back through email or chat.

If that fails get cc company to do a chargeback.

Still takes a little time but let the annoyance of getting scammed fuel your motivation.

I tell people this all the time. Yes, the big banks are horrible but they will almost always take your side if you legitimately dispute a charge. At least Chase does. They will even refund the charge to you while they investigate it.

I usually call on situations like this and have been fortunate at getting my money back.

    Yeah Microcenter is the ****

I miss Fry's Electronics though, it was like a Best Buy and Microcenter combined into one big store

Email/chat is less stressful and involved for me.

Calling can be more personal, but my experience with credit card customer rep peons is that they follow from the same script and have the lowest of privileges.

I'm more the type that could have 7 great calling experiences and remember the 3 terrible ones.

RIP to Fry's, indeed my man. Most of my stuff is Amazon these days because I used to live closer to Microcenter off S. Rice, but now it's like a 40 min drive for me. So I just Amazon everything lol. Unless I have the time to take the drive down there.

The Houston location couldn't be any more harder to get to.

Your gps says you're a quarter mile away but it still says 30 minutes.

Plus membership isn't bad if you buy stuff there. And BB will price match Microcenter, Amazon (sold by) and many other stores. Add in the credit card bonus and BB can have better prices than it's competitors. I'm not advocating for BB, but if you have a big purchase to make, there are simple ways to leverage their discounts and price matching to get the best buy.

As with any free intro subscription, it's easy to put a reminder on your phone calendar to cancel it. If you can't be bothered to do that, it's on you.

I think the $49.99 price is well worth it just to have 60 days returns on all purchases. Normally best buy only gives you 14 day return on purchases.
