I'm 18, and my interest in politics really sparked about this time last year. Are there any other young people on this board that have taken an interest in politics? Of my friends my age, only one is interested in politics, and the rest that are voting are voting for Bush because he's from Texas. Just wondering what people my age think, and what the older ones think of the young people that are interested.

I'm 22, and have followed the debates very closely as well as the campaigns for both sides. I watch MSNBC fairly regularly, and Fox news from time to time for a laugh. You can also find some decent articles on www.slate.com.

    I shouldn't be in this thread (because I'm WAY over 18 ;)) but I have a question.

You didn't divulge whom your voting for, but what do you think of your friends that say they are only voting for Bush because he's from Texas?

    just curious...

I think people should look at the issues instead of where they're from and such. I throw that kind of stuff out the window when I'm making my decision. I respect their right to vote, but I don't think they are doing the right thing by just voting for him when they don't know where he stands.

I didn't divulge who I'm voting for because I still don't know, by the way.

as a young person, what are the top 3 issues that are most important to you?

Kerry and Bush are pretty different on most issues.

This will be my 10th year of voting and the 4th time i'll be voting against Bush

    I'm 21.

    Top 3 issues for me

The WAR/RECONSTRUCTION: must be stopped at all cost, let foreign companies bid, play nice with Europe, do what ever it takes so we can stop spending billions up billions of dollars of money on a loosing venture. And oh yeah, the human lives that are lost sucks too.

NATIONAL DEBT: the freaking interest on this that we have to pay every year is more than most of our social programs combined. If our government was a person we know, he'd be the guy that max out his credit, have no liquid money not because he's re-investing in things like real estate/ stocks that might actually give a return, but because he needs to buy the biggest the biggest tv and the shiniest foreign car. Before anyone comes in and say that to get rid of the debt because of the social program, realise that our taxes can pay for the social programs, its the interest on the debt that's crippling us. The major reason we are in debt is because of the arms race under reagan in the 80's and the war the last two years that have escaladed it.

ECONOMY: Let's get it up now shall we. While it's nice that there are jobs being created, most of it is things like sales, manufactoring, food service etc. Let's see some real growth in the proffesional industries please.

We can talk all we want about predjustice (to gays, glass ceilings, affirmative action), rights (to life, speech, guns, privacy what ever) and religion (in school or not, in pledge of alliegance or not). In the end, most of us deep down inside think of them as trivial (admit it damn it). All of us just want to be fed, clothed and sheltered, along with something to help our emotion/ego (i.e. getting laid).

And in the end, this election seems hopeless to me because I fail to see how either candidate can have influence in a major way to change the current downward spiral.

It's good to see the young'uns interested in politics.

In case y'all haven't seen it, and would like to see a truly non-partisan website, check it out:

    http://www.factcheck.org/default.aspx

(Cheney gave the wrong URL during the vice-presidential debates, and he also inaccurately gave the impression that factcheck.org somehow exonerated him from Halliburton criticism. Edwards made quite a few "errors" as well.)

Can you link a website that tells where I need to go for this?

The issues that are the most important to me:

    1. Jobs/economy
    2. National Debt. I'm getting annoyed with deficit spending.
    3. Education costs.

Been interested in politics since the early part of the 2000 primaries.

Don't really know what else to add to this thread.
