The Cat- I never compared assault to murder, but there are plenty of people in prison for assault...and for murders that started out as simple assault. And this not just one thing....here's a few more incidents from Crimespree's sordid history: Arrested for outstanding warrants, driving on a suspended license & allegedly threatening a police officer. He attacked teammate Byron Houston He quarreled with Jerome Kersey and came back with a two-by-four After his infant daughter was attacked by a put bull, he refused to remove the pet from his home while endangering the welfare of his daughter. Plus all the other incidents detailed in the link given by Launch Pad. It's ridiculous, the NBA gives lifetime suspensions to Roy Tarpley and Richard Dumas for violating the drug ban, but the chokester only gets a year. What's this policy tell us? That you can't abuse your own body, but it's cool to abuse someone else's. My final word---Spree's a piece of human garbage that would be behind bars if he wasn't some hot-shot ball player.
Speaking of attacking teammates and coming after teammates with pieces of wood, what about Gary Payton? Explain what he and Max got into this year. My point is not that Spree is the classiest person in the world, but to prove that he is no different from a ton of other players in the NBA. If you hate the Knicks, then you can almost hate any team in the NBA, because on almost any team there are guys whose offenses either meet or well exceed Spree's. ------------------
Hmmm . . . I can't seem to remember Francis saying anything to the crowd when I watched the game . . . I also don't remember Carlisimo throwing anything at Sprewell . . . funny, I also don't remember Francis ever choking or threatening to kill anybody on Vancouver's coaching staff . . . So, by your logic, because Stevie allegedly said some stuff to fans that were throwing things at him (though he was never fined and the allegations were never substantiated), then I should hate him just as much as the guy who tried to kill his coach and has a nice laundry list of other problems to boot. Well . . . crap! I returned a library book late once . . . and I even talked back to my mother when I was young . . . Oh, no! I'm as bad a person as Spree! ------------------
Wow! What a cogent argument. With 12 roster spots per team and 29 NBA teams, there are 348 players in the NBA not counting the injured reserve spots. You managed to find another guy that resorted to unnecessary physical violence without good reason. That must mean that all of the other 346 players must be exactly the same! ------------------
The list could go on and on. It's not even close to just Payton and Spree. But anyway, my point is why aren't you going off and attacking Payton and some of these other guys? It doesn't seem right that you just go off on Spree and not everyone else. ------------------
The Cat, There are a lot of NBA players I don't like, but they aren't in the majority. I only singled out Sprewell, because the topic of this thread was NY or LA. I gave my reasons for not liking either team. It's that simple. You and DREAMer gave me your opinions about why not liking Spree wasn't a good enough reason to not like the Knicks and gave me some arguments to support your points. I gave you my counterarguments. You asked me to name one other thing that he's done wrong; I gave you a list. You tried to compare his mistakes with Stevie's; I pointed out the fact that Stevie's list of mistakes isn't nearly as long or as severe as Spree's. As I said before, I do respect your opinion, but we will have to agree to disagree. Back to the original topic of this thread, however, why do you hate the Lakers so much? I'm just curious if your reasons for hating them are any more meaningful than my reasons for hating NY. ------------------
My reason for hating the Lakers isn't all that meaningful- I just personally am sick of them. Like I said, I've been pulling for Scottie this week, as terrible as that sounds, to do well just so Jackson's "mind games" will fail. He thinks he is so good and knows everything, while in reality he has done nothing but just rely on talented players while coaching. Let's see him go into a situation like Doc Rivers did this year in Orlando before proclaiming this idiot the best coach in NBA history. Jackson has not proved anything- his players have always made him look good. And don't even get me started on Shaq. Read my other thread titled "Shaq is a complete idiot" and it pretty much summarizes my thoughts on him. This guy is so arrogant and stupid like his coach it is unreal. People playing hack-a Shaq is paying homage to his game? Showing respect? My god, it's scary what his IQ is. That is a sign of disrespect, since they know he chokes and can't make free throws. Shaq is so overhyped- people have been calling him the next Wilt, one of the top 5 or so players of all time and this guy can't even make a free throw in the clutch? Give me a break. Just like Kobe and Phil, this is an overhyped NBC team that falters when the pressure is on. You saw them Monday, and you will see them tomorrow. They will fall HARD. ------------------
The Cat, Normally, I would tear apart your reasons for hating the Lakers and point out that they're no more significant than my reasons for hating NY, but . . . I have to admit, I hate the Lakers for all the same reasons Heck, I was the one who posted the "big homage" quote in your other thread. I'm still rooting for Indy though, even if for no other reason than I really like and respect Larry Bird and think it would be nice for him to win a championship before he retires from coaching. ------------------
I like Larry Bird too, and I'd like for him to get a ring but I just couldn't stand it if Reggie Miller got one. I can only listen to so much crap from him. He is so arrogant, thinks he is so good, thinks he is the man, and he isn't all that great. I used to could stand him, but his comments going into this Knicks series have really gooten me pissed at him. Almost as much as Shaq. ------------------
If there were as many Sprewell apologists as Knight apologists, he would have gotten a 3 game suspension and a $30,000 fine. ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in mid-June, for now visit www.eesite.com)
I'm sorry, I'm not following your argument here. Are you arguing that the defenders of Knight were so plentiful that Indiana had to give him a slap on the wrist, or are you arguing that the NBA is much more strict in punishing its players and coaches than the NCAA? It seems like you're trying to argue the former, but you're only presenting a case for the latter. BTW I'm still waiting for the droves of Knight apologists to flood this thread ------------------ [This message has been edited by Launch Pad (edited May 26, 2000).]
Could you imagine the outcry throughout the Sports World if Sprewell would have been given a 3 game suspension and a $30,000 fine? People would have been boycotting the NBA. But when the Knight "punishment" came down, a lot of people may not have agreed with it, but there's not much outcry about it. ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in mid-June, for now visit www.eesite.com)
i hope NY loses in 4 to Indiana. I hate everyone on the NY team expect Allan Houston. Now in the west i hate all of the Lakers expect Rice and Horry. Smith is the guy in Portland thats cool. So i'm pulling for Indiana but i know it will be either LA or Portland. So if i have to choose between LA and Portland i pick Portland because i rather Pippen get another ring rather then Shaq ever get one. ------------------
I would give anything for New York to win it all. I sincerely hate the other three teams. As for Latrell, we've been through this before, but I think it's pretty sad that he gets vilified by America for choking his coach, but Bobby Knight has apologists coming out of the woodworks defending him. I wonder, if Knight had cornrows, would the reaction would be the same? ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in mid-June, for now visit www.eesite.com)
errr . . . didn't a bunch of Sprewell apologists pop "out of the woodworks defending him" in this thread? I would be willing to bet that there are more Sprewell apologists than Bobby Knight apologists (just listen to the commentators say all those wonderful things about Sprewell in every nationally televised game). Oh . . . and for the record . . . I don't think you'll see any Knight apologists responding to this thread. He's an @$$ and should never be allowed to coach again. ------------------
It's difficult for me to hate New York living in the Ny area. The whole playoff aura of the city is unbelievable and people are so passionate about this team here. Plus, i like the combo of Houston and Sprewell, and the energy of Marcus Camby(he's so cute , too ). LA the city is nice(not as warm and lovely as Hawaii though), but i HATE the arrogance of Phil Jackson, Bryant, and O neal. I don't know if i hate them as people, but i HATE their arrogance. ------------------ It's an absolute warzone in my house; I live with Rocket fans, Knick fans, and Laker fans.
