I just wish that mid-range wasn't so terrible. Didn't that used to be better for him than his 3 ball? Nitpicky I guess but if he could get that back he'd be a real tough guard.
His attacks vs the Cavs interior defense were nice. Did what he needed to do and a nice bounce back game from him.
Actually, it shows a few points. Shows how he's fared vs today's best SGs over a significant period of play, getting near a full season's worth of games. It shows he's been much better than in the past at avoiding the low lows & that he compares well to those guys in that area. It shows his highs are still very high, and again, compares very well to today's best SGs. And finally, it also shows - for the "He's too inconsistent" crowd - that the position itself is much more "inconsistent" than many realize. I also have been showing how he's compared to those guys in similar posts since Thanksgiving Eve, now two months ago. (fares even better in the "consistency" thing ) Yes, that's me .
Good through 3 quarters but in the 4th he was a non factor against the Cavs tougher defense. I had no confidence that he could make something happen when he had the ball. This is why superstars exist, they consistently make plays offensively in the 4th quarter when the defense gets better.
Hopefully, he will regain that as his stamina and strength improves. If he has another big off season, he can become an all star or an all star reserve next season.
To use a comparsion that may be too old for some fans, Jalen Green's offense reminds me of Kevin Martin. Martin was a really good efficient ~22ppg scorer. But when he left and Harden and his 25ppg arrived, one can clearly see a huge difference that just their ppg numbers don't show. Perhaps with more time Jalen can expand his game enough where he'll impact the offense like a Harden, but at this point he definitely can't impose his will game in game out.
Something tells me that Jabari is going to benefit from sitting there and watching the game for a few weeks. He was already taking a step forward, but if he finally begins to reach his potential, this team could be lethal.
Jabari plays the right way. He doesn’t everything he’s suppose to. He jsut doesn’t hit the shots. He’s like Jalen. The only thing that oisses me off about Jabari is his play in transition where he wants initiate the fast break
Its just showing and comparing individual games. Im a Jalen defender, but comparing fg% in individual games is just tedious and non-enlightening imo. Its why people argue sample size and why single game metrics are consistently called out as being bad. For example: 3 of 9 from 3 is seen as below average but 4 of 10 from 3 is seen as elite. Conversely 3 of 10 isnt much worse than 3 of 9. Its plain silly to make an argument on single game %'s like this. Just use full body of works.
Kevin Martin was good at drawing a consistent type of foul, that they then changed and he became useless without it. They arent comparable as players in style or efficiency or age (Martin was in his prime).
I wasn't comparing their age, style, or efficiency. I was comparing how I see them on the court when I watch games. If I can only make comparisons to players who are of exact age, style, wingspan, how much they talk on the court, etc. etc. etc., then we may as well just never compare players as they're all snowflakes who should be loved for their own uniqueness. And honestly may as well stop talking about sports then.
11th in the NBA in "clutch points"(pts under 5 minutes and 5 pt margin or smaller). First on the team. Plenty of games here he was relied on to be clifh. This season. Very "what have you done recently" energy.
Nah they score in very different ways and Green is scoring 22 ppg at a much younger age than when Martin did and Green is doing it on a team on pace to win almost 60 games whole Martin started averaging 20+ ppg on ~30 win teams. Green is 22 and is he leading scorer of a 2nd seed in the West. This is far ahead of Martin. And like I said they score in separate ways. Martin was hovering between 30-40% of his fgs made being unassisted while Green at 22 is 63% at fgs made being unassisted. Green bends and breaks perimeter defenses with his dribble. Martin played more like a catch and shoot play finisher. I can see Green at his peak being around a 6 apg 3 tov high volume 25+ ppg scorer on a winning team. Kevin Martin I don't think ever cracked 3 apg.
It's funny, their superstar did all that and it didn't matter. In both games. Most of the time the right play wins.
But comparing Martin to Green just shows that you dont know what your talking about when it comes to "what you see". One player, in his prime, got to 22ppg being very good at hunting a certain foul call and then fell off. In his prime he was obviously just a good rotation player, scoring guard. The other at 22 is already matching that production on a vastly more self independent type of game while showing flashes of being a great scorer. Again, its a terrible comparison. You just wanted to say you dont think Jalen is that good or ever will be that good.
I 100% agree comparing single games - game to game - is tedious and ridiculous. The overreaction is amazingly insane from many. But that's not what I did. I compared nearly a full season's worth of overall numbers. Then broke those down into how many times they shot it well and didn't - almost strictly for those who argue about the "consistency" thing. It's great that isn't an issue with you and you just prefer overall body of work (I do too!). But I would get so tired of the "He's too inconsistent" crowd simply not understanding just how often SGs have bad shooting nights. That's really what it was for. (many seemed to like or get it lol).
