It's crazy how young everyone is, Sengun and Jalen are the oldest guys of your top 5 picks at 22. The league is in real trouble if Reed starts to show potential. Serious trouble.
I'm curious how much better Amen might make Jabari on the court together for significant minutes. We've already seen the improvements from Jalen. Basketball isn't played in a vacuum. Synergy matters!
We still have another year and a half to observe his development and make a decision. These guys are really, really young. I keep hearing this constant "odd man out" nonsense like we can only play 5 guys and everybody else vanishes into the ether. And yes we have some good wins...our defense has also looked shaky since he's been gone. Less minutes and higher effort is good for everybody.
only a core piece that seems less like part of the core and has no part of beating the best team in the league.
I had to log in after a couple days just to say what a dumbass thread. Jabari will be needed come playoffs
He’s a very good floor spacer that can rebound and defend at a high level. Amen is good and everyone is high on him rightfully so but that dosent mean the team should overreact and start trading very good pieces. I’ve seen people wanting to trade Green(me), sengun, bari, Tari, all these guys have contributed heavily to our record.
Remember I was telling you in the first 10 games when Brooks was on fire: it's Brooks, it was always going to be Brooks. Sengun/Amen/Green is the trio, that's a lock, Udoka cannot possibly shelf this experiment given what they're doing offensively with mostly average shooting around them. Those 3 just need shooters, defense and safe hands. That's FVV and Jabari (who was hitting almost 40% of his 3's over the past quarter of a season). Another clear evidence is simply inflammation at one position, rendering our positionless-ness stale because we don't offer a variety of sizes. True positions: Sengun/Adams/Landale Jabari/Green Brooks/Amen/Tari/Tate Green/Whitmore FVV/Holiday/Sheppard There are clear markers: - You have locked-in bad shooters at the 3 and 5. That means quite simply you need great shooters at the 1 and 4 plus Green to maintain his average 3PT shooting. That's not because of some obsession with spacing. That's just in order to get us to AVERAGE spacing. Over the next 2-3 years I expect Sengun/Green/Amen to improve their jumpers and drag us closer to a top 10 shooting team. - We need to turn a SF into a better shooting big. When we are healthy in our previous starting lineup, there simply are not enough minutes for Amen/Tari/Whitmore. It's a math thing, it's not an opinion. You're not trading any of those 3. It's Brooks. If not Brooks then Whitmore, if not Whitmore then Tari and then Amen is untradeable. But right now, it's obvious that if we don't want to waste tons of value on the bench (they're all great players), we should trade one for something of value. Either draft pick or rotation boost. I vote rotation boost. - Starting Amen means Green plays better (so far). We don't have strong evidence, but there's definitely decent evidence there. I think Udoka LOVES the Amen/Green pairing. More than he loves Brooks. - Amen is simply a better player than Brooks it's proven now, the only other question is who's a better PF: Brooks (3.7 rebounds, 0.3 blocks, 36% shooting) or Jabari (6.7 rebounds, 1 block, 35% shooting)? Seriously? Because of 1% shooting and we know Jabari was on fire while Brooks is cooling down? - I believe I saw on Rockets Chop Shop the Rockets in January are better with Dillon off the floor? Is that right? What's done is done. Our destiny is in motion. Udoka must be relieved this decision was made for him (start Amen) and now he just has to step up and let Brooks know that what's best for the team is Jabari's size, shooting and interior defense at the 4. We have time though. Jabari has to get back in a rhythm starting one month from now.
Can you imagine the lineup of vf, green, amen, bari and senguin. Personally really hoping Sheppard can get it figured out bc he would be a great fvv replacement. You would have senguin as the primary play maker but also have. Amen and green who can make plays, plenty of defense and bari/Sheppard (hopefully) providing the shooting
A large part of the worse paint defense is the loss of Jabari. They fit different problems and offer different solutions. Amen is the future replacement for Brooks.
Reed is going to have to evolve into something else to make up for the production FVV brings. No chance we win these games without him.
Plus FVV/Holiday that's actually a great bench unit. When we're fully healthy, FVV's going to see slightly fewer minutes (maybe 2-3) with the starting unit. Might overlap Green for a few minutes here too. Adams/Landale Tari/Jeff Brooks/Tate (can be a decent scorer off the bench btw) Cam FVV/Holiday/Shep Would love to get a shooting big to add to the mix.
Why will Jabari get a near max? He will get Sengun money or less. The only person who will get max or near max is Amen.
I think you bring him off the bench (Jabari) when he comes back and who knows he might flourish with the second unit. This might actually give this team another gear we don’t know this team has in their arsenal and makes them a much deeper team.
I don’t like this “throw injured played under the bus” attitude I have seen on CF. It is not uncommon for a team to get an injury and go on a run because they play slightly differently. We are 100% harder to scout right now, but that does not mean that we are a better team without Jabari. Just chill. We have Amen & Jabari, and Jabari might be the 4th guy that takes this thing totally over the top in the next couple years.
It is not news, Tracy McGrady was a 30 ppg scorer when he was 22-23....... The most amazing thing is that Udoka formed it as a winning entity........young players are going to roam this NBA realm many more decades in the future.
look, I agree with you that Jabari is a really good player, but of the core he seems the most realistic to trade to net something star-level for a win-now push this year if needed. If there’s no trade before next month’s deadline then that means the organization would rather stand pat and make a push for next year. But at some point soon, the organization will likely not be able to keep all of these young core players and Jabari seems like one that is good enough to get something good in return without being a massive loss to the future of the organization.
Yes, his 11 points in 30 minutes a game is desperately needed. Not a huge fan of Smith, but he needs to be our starter at PF because of his size and decent athleticism. Amen is too short for the permanent PF role. Upon Smith’s return I see Brooks taking a seat on the bench. Actually, think that Amen will sadly go back to his prior role of backup, because the team will fear upsetting Brooks. Reality is that Brooks would be an excellent backup playing in a lesser role so he could have more energy in less minutes and lock down less athletic bench players. I don’t think anybody on this board thinks that Brooks is better than Thompson at this point.
The most realistic guys to sort out are still the bottom guys - Unc Jeff, Landale, Holiday and Tate. All likable but at some point you need fresh veteran help...... I would have said Adams but he seems to be trending upwards.
