Read my post correctly please. I said at the particular time during that stretch, he was playing like the best player in the nba. In which he was
Even as someone who's fairly optimistic about Jalen Green's future, he never at any point in his career played like the best player in the NBA. Jokic is currently averaging 30pp/13rpg/10apg leading the league in 3pt%, second in TS%. You can put that up against any of Jalen Green's best stretches, and every GM in the league will still take Jokic over Jalen. Devin Booker, Anthony Edwards, Bradley Beal, these are more the level of players Jalen would compare to if he reaches his ceiling.
Umm, except he won western conference player of the week last week. Over Jokic. That's not a fan award either. Jalen's peak is actually exceptionally high. Jokic is an exception, his peak is obviously high. Strange to think the problem with Jalen is he just doesn't peak high enough. I see him more as someone who can break the Kobe record (82 points). Michael Jordan didn't get lots of shiny triple doubles either. He got points, a few assists and played defense. You have to compare this archetype to Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant, etc. These guys prefer to focus on FTA and defense. That's how to measure their efficacy.
Jalen Green when he scores a bunch: used correctly Jalen Green when he's trash: used incorrectly its everyone else's fault
There have been like 20 players who won conference player of the week this year. None of them Jokic nor SGA, the frontrunners for this year's MVP. So in terms of judging who has played like the best player in the league, I probably wouldn't use player of the week as the barometer here
During his stretch last year he was playing great without Sengun he was definitely the best player. This year as well, Jokic was out
You're saying that during his 8 games last season he was better than Jokic? What do you mean Jokic was out this year though? He's played 38 games. Because he missed one game a week ago or whatever?
Thankfully his shots were falling but not a game to take victory laps over. Relying this much on his 3-ball falling will inevitably make him an inconsistent player. His defense was very lackluster at times, he made some bad decisions again, but to clarify also nothing to get concerned about at this point either. Overall while I think a lot of the victory lapping is very premature and over-indexes on this hot stretch, Jalen is a better player this year who has cleaned up a lot of his issues from last few years and we also finally found a much better way to use him. I think we need to wait until the end of the year to properly evaluate what we have in him.
