we could also move dubon as he wouldn’t be as needed with the depth we’d have on the infield

Dubon plays center and short. I would probably keep him around to spell those positions because the depth doesn't exactly cover those well.

Chas as a 4th outfielder is enough for that. Dezenzo can play anywhere but catcher as well.

    But how well?

Dubon is the only guy on this roster I would play at short if Pena were to get hurt and need an I.L. stint.

Maybe Dezenzo, Whtcomb, or even Bregman could play there, but it would be similar to Devers at 3b or Schwarber in LF ( maybe Altuve at 2b?) but at a much more vital position.

    Dubon should be infield only.

The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier writes that the Sox have been focusing on shorter-term offers with Bregman, with an eye towards signing him to “a deal of no more than four years” in length.

If Boston is doing no more than 4 years, The BJays are most likely out (even though they may have offered him a 5+ years earlier) and the Cubs are not going all in... then this just leaves the Tigers. At this point, Bregs accepting the 6 year offer with Houston would be a no-brainer you'd think.

Dana thinking it's a long shot means Bregs is still not considering the $156 mil part. I just don't get it.

When Dana talks to the media, he's usually just spinning. At least that's been my observation over the past couple of years.

You shouldn’t believe anything Dana says.

Does Dana Brown think he’s fooling anyone with his media responses? You wouldn’t be talking to Bregman and Boras again if you didn’t think there was a chance, nor would Bregman be talking to the Astros again if he had significantly better offers on the table.

This is like him saying he was very confident in signing Tucker to an extension during an interview on SportsTalk 790.

In Brown’s defense, he would be absolutely crucified if he came out today and said we are confident in working out a deal with Bregman after both sides started talking again, but Alex ultimately goes elsewhere. That’s why he gave the quote he did.

Also, this is what Bruce Levine who covers the Cubs had to say today on X:

To summarize, the Cubs want a 1-3 year deal with Bregman with player-friendly elements like opt outs, and Bregman is viewed around MLB as a 25 million player.

Maybe true, but it seems to me that both sides are motivated to get a deal done for Bregs to be an Astro again. That normally ends in success.

I just don't see Bregs having much success "resetting the market" by taking a short deal at 25m/per. If he's looked at as a 25m/yr guy as a 30yo free agent, he's not likely to be valued higher at the age of 31 or 32. If that's what the Cubs want to offer, he's better off taking 6/156 from the Astros.

Absolutely. Bregman needs to take the maximum guaranteed money he can get this week. He already “bet on himself” by rejecting extension offers to reach free agency.

Sounds like the best deal is Houston at 6 years 156 million.
Dana Brown is like Give us a call if you’re interested; camp starts next month.
