"I think, frankly, FEMA is not good,” Trump said. “FEMA has turned out to be a disaster…. I think we’re going to recommend that FEMA go away.”

"But between 2015 and 2024, Republican-led states such as Florida, Texas, and Louisiana received the majority of federal disaster aid. Any cuts to FEMA would end up affecting states that voted for him in the last three presidential elections. Perhaps Trump sees this as an acceptable price for the power to restrict aid to other places whenever he pleases.'

The issue here is, Trump wants to distribute money (generated by blue states ) to red states only, unconditionally, and then extort blue states

This is an absolute refutation of why the United States exists. For many years, we have subsidized each other for these types of things unconditionally.

If Trump doesn't want this to exist, then he doesn't want the United States to exist. There's no "transactional" approach to disaster relief.

If we want to have another constitutional convention where we all go our separate ways, maybe we should?

We all know that FEMA was created because states couldn't handle some disasters on their own, right? Right?

And we all know there are some states that will not even try to treat all disaster victims equally or be good stewards of any federal disaster money they might get, right? Right?

And we all know that relying on private and non-profit efforts is folly as they cannot come close to meeting the time and scale requirements of a major disaster, right? Right?

And we all know that there is a big difference between disaster response and disaster relief, such that you cannot expect relief organizations to conduct an adequate response, right? Right?

Sigh. Get familiar with the word privatization because we will see it a lot--I'm quite certain it will be aimed at wildland fire soon. Then in a few years, after we have a large number of horrible outcomes from disasters, we'll be forced to buy everything back at three times the cost.

You have to give them the appropriate amount of time to agree on the line of bullshit they're all going to use to agree with them.

And that's fine. You just need to be patient as they can't speak until Fox tells them what their answer is going to be.

    SMH.

“And we’re looking at the whole concept of FEMA. I like, frankly, the concept when North Carolina gets hit, the governor takes care of it. When Florida gets hit, the governor takes care of it, meaning the state takes care of it,” he said, adding a short time later that the way FEMA dispatches “a large group of people” to a disaster area “in order to solve immediately a problem” was “something that never worked for me.”

I suspect Trump is looking at California, seeing how terribly they've mismanaged funds, how they didn't adequately prepare for or prevent the fires, didn't adequately respond to the fires... and then expects FEMA to bail them out, essentially forcing all other Americans to foot the bill for the incompetence of California's leadership.

.. and he might also be thinking of other states that are prone to natural disasters (TX, LA, and FL for hurricanes & floods, CA also for earthquakes, OK, IA, NB, KS for tornados, states in the NorthEast that are prone to winter storms) and he's probably thinking that these states should be doing a better job to prevent, prepare, and respond to natural disasters, and having their own reserves and funds for such disaster relief instead of making all Americans pay for it.

But circling back to Cali.... I suspect it really pisses him off that CA has such terrible leadership and then FEMA (American Taxpayers) will pay for California's incompetence.

    The post above is shocking.

You can't prepare enough for a natural disaster, Texas gets a majority of relief funds as does Florida, the don't do enough to prepare for Hurricanes, and by your logic shouldn't get anything.

UNITED States...****ING UNITED means we help each other.

He also promised grocery prices to be slashed, gas under 2 dollars, and end Ukraine war in 24 hours. Instead grocery prices are about to explode cuz migrants aren't showing up for slave wages at farms and mortgage rates are going higher cuz inflation is about to get worst.

@Salvy these MAGATS don't care though cuz they've been brainwashed to only care about woke and trans people. It's a cult

Well, I don't know where those guys live, but insurance rates are going to skyrocket in Florida and the red states if they keep having hurricanes seasons that rake in billions and billions in damages. Even those inland from the coast are seeing the consequences, flooding, and storm damage. Without FEMA, it will be even worse for those peons the governors put on the bottom of their list behind those in the exclusive wealthy neighborhoods, or those lining their pockets for favors.
