They don't want to do that because it makes them look bad for not giving him any minutes when he plays so well down there when given a genuine opportunity to play. That's why they are opting to not play him AND not let him play in the G league.
Yeah it's not his skills that saw him drop in the draft, it's his alleged inconsistent motivation. Not surprised he can have good games in the NBA. He'll have to prove he has a good long term work ethic for me to buy in though.
Sample size is so low on Ware that I don't know yet if I buy him as a 3P shooter. 16 for 41 all season. That's like five Jalen Green games' worth of shooting the three, and we all know how hot or how terrible JG can be in that kind of sample size
At least we’re not wasting more time developing Aaron Holiday. Cam should get and keep those minutes.
To @Mathloom's point - see Hassan Whiteside for an example, @hlmbasketball ..the Heat always have a reclamation project on their hands. Most don't work out long term but they do see some short term results for that type of player from time to time.
Totally agree - a big part of the Ware buzz is that at times he moves like Wemby..but he's not near the basketball mind Wemby is.
Yep but he still has Reed beat and Kel'el is a center, besides if you do the MATH, that's 40% all day.... we all would take that
That's just silly. They want him to play well with the NBA team. It would solve a lot of issues. Maybe, they just think RGV doesn't do him any good, since he just went down there and tore it up.
Reed Sheppard was consensus 3, the only other guy mocked in that range was Stephon Castle. So no matter how good Kalel Ware or Jaylen Wells or whoever else has looked unless Stone had a crystal ball and traded down from 3 we had no shot of getting those other players.
Not sure if Ime will go back to Holiday at some point, but there's been a lot of anti Reed glazing of Holiday. Even with how unimpressive Reed has been shooting the ball, Holiday hadn't been THAT much more of a positive impact on the court. If they aren't going to play Reed, don't play Holiday in the regular rotation...give Cam more minutes. Give Jalen and Amen more ball handling duties.
I disagree Holiday is still shooting at 38% from 3. Thats a down year by his standards but still one of our best 3 pt shooters. Sheppard is 28% so not sure how you can say Holiday hasnt been that much better like wtf dude. The main reason Holiday looks ineffective is because Ime doesnt play him. Efficiency wise he has been holding his own just not given the opportunity to play.
Regular playing time wouldn't necessarily develop Reed any faster. If minutes meant development, then Jalen and Jabari would have seen the fastest growth out of all of our prospects. If anything I think the extra playing time in the Silas years hurt more than it helped them. They were both benched a number of times last year by Udoka and appeared to benefit and grow from that. Reed can develop just fine practicing with the big club. At this point we already know what he can do in the G league. As fun as it would be to see him drop 30ppg in the G league I think it is better to have him around the veterans. Just because he isn't ready his rookie year doesn't mean he never will be.
It's pretty clear they don't want him to play with the NBA team at all.... and if they kept him in RGV tearing things up it would put pressure on them to call him up and play him... so instead they just keep him on the bench never playing so there's not a constant reminder of the self sabotage that is keeping the kid out of the rotation
Yeah I'm in the trust Ime camp. His work with the Celtics and now the Rockets gives him the benefit of the doubt to me. They wouldn't have drafted him #3 if they didn't like his skillset. He'll get minutes when he deserves them and as much as FVV frustrates me he's not even close to being good enough to eat into those minutes. Ime is just a prove it guy, we've seen this, FVV being the only exception because he probably believe that's the glue of the team, but every one else will see the bench the moment he's not happy with their play and when he is happy with their play he gives them more minutes. I thought for sure Tate would be a bench warmer but every time we had an injury he's fill in, play well, and now he's part of the rotation. We've seen him bench Jalen, Jabari, and Sengun when he's not happy with them. So the obvious answer is Ime likely doesn't think Reed is good enough to play. Every now and then Reed sees the floor for this or that reason and it hasn't popped yet, so back to the bench he goes. As for the gleague thing I think it's a compliment to him that they don't send him down there because they likely see it as he's too advanced. He's practicing and scrimmaging with the team which is probably a lot more valuable. He could go down there and fool around gleaguers OR go up against Amen and Tari and Dillon every practice...I think the latter is a lot more valuable to him. The only reason he'll play in the gleague is to probably knock off rust of playing a full game
