Everyone outside of Houston seems to still believe he had a buzzer under his jersey for that monumental homerun. I don't think he ever cheated. But, he should have been more of a leader as far as stopping it imo. But, really, the Manager failed in that regard. Tuve should have gone to him and they both should have stopped it. It's unfair but the cheating tainted Tuve's career to an extent not to us but them. The Astros defied the integrity of the game to get an advantage and then lied to themselves that it was somehow 'okay' to do it the way they did it and everyone was doing it. And, this certainly could be a factor for him not getting in for a while. It shouldn't be, though.

    This is truth.

But there's no way Altuve is not in the HOF

    **** "counting stats"

Counting stats is how Harold Baines is in the HOF.

    1X MVP
    2X WS
    3X AL Batting Champ
    9X All Star
    7X Silver Slugger
    1X GG

I'm pretty sure that guy is a HOFer

His playoff statistics alone get him in.

Sure, I agree that Baines does not belong. Compilers should get a penalty.

But at the same time there should be a floor on counting stats.

That's why I like looking at total numbers AND peak seasons and awards in combination.

Some players don't have the career totals.

Some players don't have the peak.

The counting stats right now for Altuve really are not THAT impressive when you consider the context of 125 years of players.

However - when you measure them in the context of the era he is playing in, they are very good.

Right now, Jose Altuve is a career .306 hitter and that is #1 amongst all active players.

He led the league in hits 4 times..... in batting average 3 times.... stolen bases twice.... won an MVP and has finished in the top 5 three times....

9 time all star....... 7 silver sluggers.......

He also should reach 3,000 hits if he remains relatively healthy...with a solid 2025, he should be at 2,500 hits.

That post was in support of his peak and awards much more than his career counting stats.

Fortunately Altuve is not Lance Berkman, where we are looking after retirement and saying, "if he just had 1 or 2 more good years. . "

Altuve may not have the counting stats now, but he is still under contract for 5 more years and should put any debate about overall counting stats to bed long before then.

In the past 50 years, non-HOF 2b with more counting stats than Altuve

    R) Whitaker, Kent, T.Phillips, Franco, Cano, Durham, Kinsler, Randolph

HR) Soriano, Kent, Cano, Utley, Kinsler, Boone, Whitaker, Semien, Uggla

RBI) Kent, Cano, Franco, Soriano, Whitaker, Utley, Boone, T.Phillips, Kinsler, Durham, F White, B.Phillips.

SB) E.Young, DeShields, Lopes, Sax, Knoblauch, Samuel, Castillo, Womack, J.Cruz, Gordon

WAR) Whitaker, Randolph, Utley. *Grich also has more but a few seasons were prior to 1975.

As I said, I expect him to get there but his counting stats are a bit lacking as of now.

There will be some sanctimonious East Coast sportswriters who want to believe that Altuve was part of Trash Can-gate wand was hiding a buzzer under his jersey, all evidence to the contrary. That might be enough to keep him from being first ballot since they'll hide under the skirts of "the sanctity of the game" or some such crap for justification.

The buzzer story was always such bullshit. Why in the world would his teammates, who no doubt would've been aware of any buzzer on Jose Altuve, want to rip off his jersey to display it?

The legacy of second basemen for this franchise is second to none:
    • Nellie Fox
    • Joe Morgan
    • Billy Doran
    • Craig Biggio
    • Jeff Kent
    • Kaz Matsui
    • Jed Lowrie
    • Jose Altuve

    Altuve 1st ballot secure

why is Lance Berkman not in the hall?

Is it because he only primed out for 12ish years instead of 15, like Bagwell? His counting stats are not elite but still very good. His %’s and OPS and OPS+ etc are in line with some great hall of famers.

    For 12 years!

Did he just need to do it for 2-3 more years? Is that all that’s holding him back?
