I wanted Caron Butler over Yao I drank the Stromile Swift Kool-Aid. Same with Eddie Griffin (R.I.P.) I thought Mike James (second time around) was going to be Jason Terry 2.0
I do not come here for correct takes necessarily, rather for fun comments or actually takes that did not age well.
Guys I liked that never panned out. 1. Marcus Fizer - thought he would be great 2. Steve Harris - shooting never translated. 3. VSpan - left too early, but wussed his way out so...... DD
A lot of people on this board wanted Jalen over Mobley. A lot wanted Jabari over Paolo pre-draft. Those who wanted Jabari and Jalen in their respective drafts should retire from posting
I was wrong about Sengun, I thought he was gonna have an all-star (numbers) year but he regressed across the board and I can't even argue he should make it in over Sabonis because clearly Sabonis is the better player this year.
I loved Roderick Rhodes. Thought he was going to be with the team a looong time. Then he just disappeared.
I thought Silas would be able to do an average development job despite the tanking. We set everyone back around 1.5 years under Silas. Just imagine the alternative if we started with a great development coach: - Sengun starts learning to protect the rim or shoot the 3 from day 1, totally prepared by year 3. He’d be a better defender and shooter since Udoka has already recognized the need to add range to his game. - Green doesn’t get to start or only gets to start with extremely limited shot attempts as a rookie. Has to earn everything. That would’ve changed everything imo. He just sucked at scoring it was not an effort thing. No one that age but LeBron James has ever been able to score efficiently at that volume at that age in history. Bad habits take a year to go away. Jalen Green showed up with bad habits then we let him deepen them by treating him like Michael Jordan under Silas. - Tari has barely improved since the start of his second season and Jabari has taken so long to develop too. These two would probably not have needed Udoka as much but they are improving more under Udoka than they ever did under Silas. Our other two best core prospects both had to earn their way off the bench. The rest - who were given shots and minutes without merit - are gone, struggling or catching up. There’s definitely something psychologically positive that happens when you make a young player earn a spot. I would never skip that again. It all mattered. Culture, which few things you decide to focus on, actual training development skills, etc. We did the kids dirty skimping on a coaching change just because we had hired Silas already. Stone has several screw ups in that period too. Thank god it’s over lol I feel like with Green hitting this 57 TS% and 36% 3PT% mark, him/Amen/Sengun are all in perfect position to take a huge step up in the coming year (not really in their mid 20's even). Feels like we're back on track with all prospects now except Jabari who looked like he was breaking out just before his injury.
I thought Jeremy Lin wouldn't sabotage the Rockets in the final minute against Portland in the playoffs (in 2 consecutive games). I thought that he would protect the possession after a crucial rebound, but he decided to go on a 1 v 4 fast break. Lol, sorry...I had to!
