That was a great movie. Were you an actor in the movie, an extra, or working behind the scenes. Either way, that’s a pretty cool tidbit.
I just listened to Josh Reddick on Crush City podcast talking about today's game and it was pretty eye opening. He said that he got out at a major change in philosophy. He said players today generally don't think about situations and coaching don't talk about situations. He said players generally go up to the plate looking to do damage and grade their success or failure and value based on individual accomplishment and not about wins or losses. (My interpretation not something he said) a roster is 26 individual players, not a team with a common goal. They talked about Santander getting 40 HR, but striking out so much and having a low AVG and OB% and still getting $90M+ and it's because that's what organizations want. Say what you want about Bregman's performances, stats, and regression but I think everyone will agree that he is about winning over personal stats. That's currently out of vogue in MLB and why teams aren't willing to pay him.
This goes with what I said the other week. Bregman doesn't move the needle for ball clubs looking for a splash. He's a guy that can help your guys gel and possibly even be the final piece to a winning puzzle, but no fan base is going to run to the ballpark to see him hit.
Exactly. He will turn a losing team into a winner. He will turn a winning team into a World Series contender. But he won't excite the fans or cause them to spend more money. MLB is about money, not winning.
Whomever eventually pays Bregman should know they are overpaying and his play will be in gradual decline. And, he will more and more have longer lasting batting slumps. We experienced them here. It doesn't take much to throw off his swing to where he's "popping up". And, he's slowing down in the field a bit. Good Luck
I’m a huge fan of Bregman. It’s tough knowing he is 99% not going to be an Astro next season. But it’s the current dynamics of the game, salary cap penalties are huge hurdles for teams that don’t have unrivaled revenue streams compared to the other MLB teams.
