You’ll see that formula a lot the next four years and it’s one that works with our mostly ignorant voting base.

Break something you have power over. Back away. Chaos ensues. Make people kiss the ring. Kind of bring it back. Demand fealty and praise from all for being the savior.

So you didn’t answer my question? What do you not understand about what I said? Tell me why it’s baffling to you to make the claim that the US is like headed toward corruption and autocracy?

    I’m a 17-Year-Old TikTok Junkie. I Need This Ban.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/19/opinion/tiktok-ban-teenagers.html

    excerpt:

My friends and I never thought this day would come. The daily routines of over 170 million Americans could have been disrupted by a nationwide TikTok ban. On the bright side, my homework will get done a lot quicker.

Do you not understand that the United States is susceptible to weather events such as hurricanes and wildfires?

It's an old psychological trick. Robert Green and ancient Rome tell you about this.

A lot of people here are old. We remember the Internet before TikTok, Facebook and Twitter. It's not the end of world. In fact people will be better for it.

As far as a deal getting done, while anything is possible, consider the other side's point of view. Facebook and Twitter are blocked in China. It has been for a long time. That Chinese user base is huge. Yet, you hardly ever hear China asking Zuckerberg or Jack Dorsey (now Elon) to sell a portion of their companies (including their intellectual property) to a Chinese entity. See how ridiculous it sounds when the proposal is said out loud.

Our western social media platform spies on the use base, sell user data and is vulnerable to propaganda just the same. If a government finally decides to do something, stick to its guns for once.

Perfect example where Trump had absolutely nothing to do with something but he is responsible.
Are you aware the man is still not in office and has not been in office for 4 years??
It was done under a very democrat environment and a very leftist regime. It was done because Jeff Yoss, a very wealthy billionaire who supports Trump, has a very large stake in the platform. And when Trump signs his executive order to bring it back tomorrow, I am sure you will credit Biden and his administration.

Yeah, i feel bad for drug dealers who lose their work when they no longer can provide the warez to the addicted masses.

You're addicted to the hopium. Bytedance has repeatedly said they will not divest. They have a very powerful algorithm they do not want to give up. One that is targeting the lower tranche of the population and very effective at getting them addicted to the screen.

I an guarantee there is a strong correlation between IQ and user time spent on tiktok.

Social media has generated more wealth than any other industry over the last 20 years. Its why entry level engineers are getting 300k. Its why people with 5 years of experience are making more than "oil executives".

Tiktok saying trump will save them is going to win him a lot of fans.

Wouldn't it be nice if the 300k was spent to attract smart engineers to work on softwares that help cure cancer instead of a UI that keeps people addicted to phone screens.

    Individual benefits and societal benefits.

a young friend on fb just shared this. Trump may get more young voters this way than Biden did with student loan forgiveness.

I guess you don’t remember it was Trump who enacted a ban in 2020? The only reason he changed his mind now is money. The right investor made donations to his campaign (and pockets).

Trump did not enact a ban. In usual fashion, you're spouting off nonsense.

What Trump did was enact an EO to ban Tiktok in Aug 2020 if it was not divested in 90 days. This lead to negotiations and discussions that went nowhere. Then Biden revoked it (for the same reasons why Trump is going to enact an EO tomorrow).

I strongly disagree with Trump (im not emotionally attached to my vote) and the ban should be enacted. Bytedance has been given 4 years to comply and has still stated they will not divest. Only the NPC's addicted to Tiktok are upset. Doing things that are not in the best interest of our country (what Biden did in 2021 by over turning the ban to cater to Gen Z) and what Trump is now doing is wrong and needs to end. I have always said there is no difference between these two shitty parties.

In your simple view of the world, you think everything is about money. There comes a point where money no longer has the same clout. Its about political power. Worthless Kamala had more billionaires and more money spent on her campaign and she lost spectacularly. Democrats and Harris are too stupid to realize the important to tapping into intelligent billionaires, while fewer, instead of the grifting billionaires like Soros.

Lol. TikTok chose to go dark in the US. Now they are choosing not to.
