An incomplete backwards pass is a fumble. In this situation the QB didn't drop back so that he could throw it backwards. It's really dumb to throw the ball backwards if you aren't trying a halfback pass. The risk reward isn't worth it. A swing pass where the QB drops back further and throws it slightly forward will get the ball to the RB in the same spot with no risk of a fumble.
The later doesn't negate the former, though. *Any* backwards pass runs the risk of being a fumble so I'm not sure how a pass validates the decision? As to why, I assume it's to create some confusion for the D; give Mixon more space if players hesitate. Stroud threw it... 6 yards, maybe? Mixon was in space; no one around - it was a fairly high % play. And who is Mixon throwing to if it's a pass? Metchie and Schultz are both blocking at the LoS; X is downfield with his hands up, his back to the play - sure looks like he's about to block (and is committing a penalty if Mixon is throwing)...
Yes, please please get out the pink slips. Time to move on from Bobby and the OL coach. Heck, toss out the entire offensive staff really and start over. We are wasting CJ's rookie deal the longer we wait to revamp and reload in players and coaching personnel.
Then it’s history repeating itself (Texans refused to hire an experienced DC for all those years… till one glorious season with Wade Phillips, but too late to have an extended run).
I don’t think he will be fired either. But, I wonder how the relationship is between CJ and Slowik. If CJ doesn’t believe in Slowik, then a change is needed.
I’m actually shocked Bobby was able to run on the Cheats. We didn’t fold hard like Miami or some of those warm climate teams. We played northern football. So credit where it’s due.
I doubt we would fire him unless he gets tired by someone else, but is there any good potential OCs out there?
