I don't know why you're being so weird and combative towards me. I'm throwing out my opinion because I want to be a part of the discussion. I want to post and tell you my thoughts, and then I want to hear your thoughts. I don't know why you're acting like I'm trying to silence you or shut you down or something. Anyway, yeah I think Dirk is/was a franchise player, and he was one before he won a ring. I also think that it's reasonable to say (and I'm pretty sure this is Nooks position) that nobody on the rockets will be as good as Dirk. Of course we don't know for sure, we're speculating on their future careers. That's just his player evaluation opinion - nobody currently on the roster will ever be as good as Dirk. I think it's a little early to call that but I think he's probably right.
So Dirk is the standard now? Dirk is one of the best players of all time nobody on the Celtics team is as good as Dirk and they just won a ring. So based on that logic you dont even need franchise players to win a ring so I dont think it even matters if there is a franchise player on the Rockets or not. im not being combative I'm just answering your questions. I'm an ESL (english second language) so some things will be lost in translation. Apologies if you got offended.
Glad to see Jalen making some legit progress. I feel like he could tighten up his shot selection a little more, but to have high volume scoring on an almost league average efficiency (avg for a guard) is no small feat. Not too be too nit picky, but I'd rather see him at about 19-20 PPG with a little bit higher TS%, but glad to see the improvement kick in regardless.
A franchise player to me is someone u can rely on consistently to carry a team to the playoffs Aka harden. There are different levels, some require a lot of good teammates while others can carry garbage teams. Green and sengun could b that sort of players but who knows.
At the same age, Alpi is the better rebounder and passer compared to Dirk. Better defender also. Where Alpi so far significantly falls short compared to Dirk is shooting. Jokic is like an Alpi combined with Dirk's shooting.
Jokic also has pretty good defense. Jokic is like Tim Duncan, Pau Gasol, Dirk and Magic combined imo. He's the most dominant player since Lebron if he was American with US viewpoint and values he would have demanded a trade or went to a glamor city years ago and he'd be in goat conversations by now. I dont think Alpi will ever match Jokic but I think he will be his own player. How good he is at only 22 barring health issues he will be a superstar when he is around Sabonis age imo.
Yeah - they had a franchise player and a number of very good players as well. This isn't surprising. No. Also, no - Klay has never been one of the ten best players in the NBA. Ask Charlie Scott or Vlade Divac or Calvin Murphy or Dennis Rodman or Bill Bradley..... making the Hall of Fame is a big deal, but being a Hall of Famer is big deal, but it isn't the same as being a franchise player.
Dam .. lots of Homers in here I see lol trying to catch up on this thread but from my view point ( doesn’t really matter) Jalen green still has to finish the season playing like this before we crown him a franchise player. that doesn’t mean he needs to lead us to the finals or wtv. when I think franchise player I think of a leader who is the best player on the team and who can bring an identity to the team. we have super potential to have THAT guy with current roster. Either Jalen alpi or amen will be that guy. whats your definition
The only thing I’m arguing is the notion of Klay or Bosh being top 10, better than Dirk, Dirk beating a team with 3 guys better than him, etc.
Some of you are wasting time arguing semantics. "Franchise player" "HOFer" "superstar" "star" etc. When people have different definitions on some terms, it saves a lot of back and forth arguing by just dropping the terms and using plain English to spell out whatever you mean.
It's not some Rockets secret that Jalen Green has been inconsistent. Likewise, if Green becomes more consistent non Rocket fans wouldn't be surprised. It's just us Rockets fans who are so irrationally up and down
Consistent, not consistent.... my point is for the season Green is more efficient scoring wise than Williams.
We aren’t going to draft the 1A Player that would That lead us to a championship in 2027 or 2028. We might have to achieve supremacy in the aggregate. Maybe not a person better than SGA but just more depth and talent throughout the rotation. Or some high high-level player just loves our set up so much they force their way there.
Don’t get hung up on top 15 player. That convo is for the birds. Focus on building a top 5 team offense and a top 5 team defense. A whole lot of the rest is injury luck.
My definition of a franchise player is much looser: someone you build your team around and is untouchable (unless for a super star of course). More like a cornerstone?
