We should have a different term for this. "Dunk" requires rim contact.

Call it a "throw-down", because that's literally what it is.

Edit: Or, going off of Websters above-- maybe we should say "dunk" is the general term for a throw down, and a "slam dunk" requires physical hand-to-rim contact. Yes, I'll go with that.

A slam dunk, also simply known as dunk, is a type of basketball shot that is performed when a player jumps in the air, controls the ball above the horizontal plane of the rim, and scores by shoving the ball directly through the basket with one or both hands.[1] It is a type of field goal that is worth two points. Such a shot was known as a "dunk shot"[1] until the term "slam dunk" was coined by former Los Angeles Lakers announcer Chick Hearn.[2]

Folks the dunk attributors are pushing their propaganda again

The discourse is about the fact this alleged dunk occurred after a foul called on another Spurs player & whistle blowing the play dead - should it count as a dunk?

I have a different more fundamental objection.

    THIS IS NOT A DUNK

His fingers do not even touch the rim, the rim barely moves, the ball is thrown & bounces on the inside of the rim because it was thrown at an angle.

    That's a throw, not a dunk.*

*It could technically count as a posterizing because since a poster is a still photo.

Didn't Dwert do this as part of his Superman bit for the dunk contest?

My answer is: sure, whatever. Maybe create a new word for it.

Yes, Dunking is not defined by touching the rim, it is the action of the shot

Do you touch the biscuit on the coffee cup's side when you dunk it in it?
