Like Stone says, his job is to listen to all trade offers.

I'm not in favor of acquiring any 35+, or even 30+ year old star if it costs any real assets. But if you put a gun to my head and made me do a trade for a max player, I'd say we should just make a lowball offer for Jimmy Butler, not pay out a huge haul for KD.

Miami is up against the wall and can't find any realistic offers. A big platter of expiring bench roleplayers to boost their depth plus like one FRP might be the best they can get at this point, and better for them than just letting him sulk his way to free agency.

And honestly, as much as he's an egomaniac crybaby, Butler has a stronger recent playoff history as the best player on his team than KD does. KD hasn't gone anywhere in the playoffs in 6 years, since he was with the Warriors. Butler has appeared in the Finals twice in that time as the best player on his team. If we just want a guy for a year or two who's been there before and can give us a slightly higher chance at making it to the Finals, I don't see a lot of difference between KD and Butler, and Butler will cost a lot less and is a lot more realistic.

Basically - His contract ends in 2026
a year and a half rental would be ok
it we can get him for Fotsam - Help them dump some salary or whatever
I would not take Butler for anything
his sh*tty attitude and pouty ways are much worse than KD

This is my thought. If the team and Jabari disagree on the amount for his extension it may make sense to move on before that becomes public knowledge and we lose leverage.
People keep saying fvv and reed but then we are left with only holiday at point guard. I would be fine with Fred I guess but he does more than the stats show and idk why the suns would want him so he would be just filler. I could see the suns wanting Jabari and like Tate maybe Adams/ jock. Even Dillion makes more sense for them. I don’t think they want Beal and fvv coming off the bench.

Yeah I mean I wouldn't love it either--but at least it would be a half-year rental then we're done with him, and he'd have to fit into Ime's system, not the other way around. I'm just saying, it's better than giving up far more assets (probably three FRPs) for a 36 year old KD on the last leg of his career.

I don't like either of them from an off-the-court, "winning attitude" perspective. KD is a perpetual loser who f*cked us out of a ring with Harden by joining up with Steph and co and hitching a ride to an easy couple of rings. He's never had the killer instinct and the ability to step up his game and carry a team to playoff success. At least Butler has actually made it to the Finals as the clear-cut, no-argument best player on his team, and not just once but multiple times.

Yeah - but for ALL the PHX picks it would have to be a helluva star.

    PHX has no leverage
    Like, non.

We have no need to offer anything for Durant better than expirings and their 2025 pick back. That allows them to tank 2025 and 2026 and hope for the best after that.

Pass on KD... dude is 37 and even if he has a career like Lebron he's still only a 1 year rental.

I'd rather keep the Suns swap this year and draft a top 10 player to strengthen our bench.

Are they not paying attention to how Stone has bet big against Durant not once but twice now? It's pretty clear he doesn't see him as someone who can lead a franchise to victory. If he did, he wouldn't prize the draft picks of his current team so highly.

If we're relying on either Butler or KD to be our best player after a trade we have already failed. KD has more potential as a complementary scorer due to his elite shooting ability. Butler can't space the floor and has actually shown a bigger decline despite being a year younger than KD. He also has health concerns of his own. Spacing is important because I assume Amen and Sengun are starters going forward.

KD would easily be the best shooter on the team if we traded for him. I'm not sure Butler would be the best at if we acquired him. He's had a lot of success in Miami but prime Miami Butler is a thing of the past. If considering either of these guys we need to project how they'll play the next 2-3 years not how well their teams did in the past five.

I think Butler's drop this season is mostly just him sulking about his lack of a payday. His efficiency numbers are the same--honestly, they're actually up--he's just dropped his scoring volume significantly because he's lollygagging out there to get back at Riley. Not a good look, but I don't think he's necessarily declined anymore than KD has.

I do agree KD is a better fit on paper, but I don't think we're winning a ring with either them, so I don't really care. I do think either one of them would probably increase our chances of making it to, say, the WCF (a semi-realistic goal) this season. But I'm not giving up a bunch of draft picks for that. Maybe like, one, which might be what Butler costs. KD would probably cost three, and probably isn't even available anyway.

Regardless, I'd rather us just go forward with the group we have. No need to bite the bullet on a big trade at this year's deadline.

Yep, this makes the most sense. You have your closer and still all the young core and Brooks still on board for depth.

Top to bottom that’s arguably the most talented roster in the league.

I think Dillion is loved by the players so is FVV , moving them is gonna mess up chemistry, and Durant is the ultimate plug and play, I think you gotta keep brooks cause Eason is always hurt

You are right. That is really tough, but that is after the trade deadline.

I think they're doing well enough right now to convince themselves that they're fine. I don't think they'll be correct in that assessment, but I think that's what they'll believe.

    NBA Trade Machine
Adams/Jeff Green/ Landale / Tate and Holiday for KD

They would shed 35 million from their cap at the end of the year
We shed 51 + 43 (FVV) million at the end of next year
Where we have to ReUp Jabari and Eason

    Rocket River
YEA!! That's about all I'm willing to give up and I must say Holiday and both bigs gave me pause

Yeah that's what i mean as in a tough spot. I have no idea how close durant/booker are to wanting to leave and/or mgmt is wanting to blow it up. but if they stay the course and finish the year "the tough spot" is they may start losing in April and fall all the way out of the playoffs. It's a gamble
