I have sympathy for anyone affected. It is a hardship brought on by nothing of their own doing. It is sad for anyone to lose keepsakes, heirlooms, valuables, their homes, etc. Especially for those that had the insurance canceled on them by the insurance companies before these fires. I knew of some friend's parents who are senior citizens that happened to them.

There is no line to be drawn of when to feel sympathy.

Take sympathy out of it. If a charity or red cross didn't prioritize distributing dianations and resources to the people that have less and less ability to recover, I'd say they were being mismanaged.

Let us all remember the great Water Restoration Declaration act of 2025 ...

No worries, Trump will fix California like he fixed Puerto Rico.

this is helpful, but I do not think the $53 million figure can be for just the LA fire department alone. Looking at the numbers for a couple of years (not all of them, admittedly), the $53 million seems on par for what the unappropriated balance funds are for the entire city, not for the fire dept. alone. But I am not an accountant, so I may be misunderstanding something here. I am also not finding the updated (November 2024) budget online. But the budgets for the previous 10-15 years are online at https://cao.lacity.gov/budget/

Here is what was anticipated for 2024-25:

Again, I may be missing something here, and the Newsweek article says they have reached out to both the mayor's office and the fire chief's office for clarification.

If anyone else can help with the nuances of municipal budgeting, hop right in. If the difference has to do with the re-negotiation of the fire dept union contract, as reported by Politico (unfortunately no link is provided by Newsweek), that would be helpful to see:

According to Politico, the city was negotiating a new contract with the fire department when the budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year was being crafted, so additional funding was set aside until the deal was finalized in November.
Anyway. hard to decipher the reality of the funding question(s) here.

Maybe - depends on if the councilman has correct info but seems unlikely they would mistake. Regardless, this does seem to strongly point that the 17.6m number is not the final change in the firefighting budget.

Banks require insurance as a condition of a mortgage.

It is just a common thing for you to point out stuff based on people's sexual preference or race. It's not just one random post. You do it all the time. Makes me wonder why you obsess about it, or share the stuff you do. Just like your post of a rainbow colored fire hydrant. It's so weird to me. I guess we are just different.

But @Sweet Lou 4 2 told us there was no budget cut?

We were also told this fire chief is highly qualified.

    What now, woke mob?

Obviously she's not qualified, her city is burning down.

This has nothing to do with her sexual orientation. They need totally new leadership from top to bottom and things like sex/race etc... shouldn't have anything to do with the hiring process. Only the best and brightest should be hired whether that's all white males, all females. lesbians, black, white or brown shouldn't matter. just go out and hire the best and let them do their jobs with no politics involved.

Notice how this is a 44 second clip snipped from a longer conversation.

Hate to say it, but she is probably going to be murdered by the deep state/legacy government for this. Alternatively, they may try to throw her in prison to silence her. She is too damaging to Gavin Newsom's political aspirations (probably the deep state's future candidate).

Certainly the system in place failed her department's ability to control the fires. There is a lot of rushing to blame individuals (including the fire department), but I don't think we're going to sort out all that what went wrong and where the blame should go with all these knee-jerk tweets. I'm guessing we'll learn more in the coming weeks.
