Not really? Green has quicker footwork. Green seems like a guy who does a lot of things like advanced jump rope drills that boxers do for quick footwork. Green will do a euripstep and execute it fluidly while being off balance from contact. Green also has a more fluid lay up package with those quick flicks he does often.

Statistically Amen has a 78% fg% 0-3 ft from the rim and Green has a 73% fg% 0-3 ft from the rim. But keep in mind Amen has a lot more of his attempts from tip ins and dunker spot attempts.

Look if Amen wasn't projected to be competing with Wemby for dpoy for the next decade I think Jalen would be seen near universally as the higher ceiling player.

Sure, if Amen wasn't a good defender, he would be seen as a worse player as Green is a better shooter and has a better handle.

Amen doesn't make all his baskets on cutting and putbacks. Amen is not just KJ Martin making uncontested baskets or beating guys to the rim. If Amen gets the ball near the basket, he's going to finish at a high rate around guys because he's so much more agile than big guys and knows how to use it. Green can get contested looks in the paint almost any time he wants with his handle. Those looks just aren't as good for Green as they are for Amen.

So you are saying Green and Amen get similar amount of offensive put backs and dunker spot attempts?

I don't think our disagreement here is that big. Just on the margins.

my enthusiasm for this game has lessened significantly if Aldama, Bane, JJJr, and Ja are all questionable and likely not playing

    that’s their 4 best players

I'm suggesting that Amen's 2.5 FGAs/game from cuts and putbacks aren't the sole reason Amen is finishing better at and around the rim than Green. Looking at NBA.com's numbers, cuts and putbacks are not actually helping Amen's finishing efficiency around the basket. Amen just finishes around the rim at around 70% regardless of how he gets there.

I'm too lazy to check right now at the moment but I find it near impossible that put backs and dunker spot attempts aren't helping his finishing stats at the rim. Tip ins are near 100% efficiency. Dunker spot attempts from dump off passes from another teammate has to be 80+%

NBA.com used to have a page that broke down shot type like "put back" or "driving lay up attempt" but now they just have a shot dashboard page that breaks down shots by numbers of dribbles, time of possession etc before shot attempt.

And from there it paints a clear picture of the advantage in paint efficiency Amen has by pure shot diet rather than "being better"

Amen has 49% of his shot attempts with zero dribbles.
Green has 25% of his shot attempts with zero dribbles.

Now we have to remove the shot attempts with zero dribbles that are spot up catch and shoot threes and only include the zero dribble attempts that are just two points attempts. If you break that down Green has a 5% frequency of his entire shot diet being 0 dribble 2 pt attempts. Amen has a 35% of his fg attempts with zero dribble 2 pt attempts. So Amen's zero dribble 2 pt attempts are 7 times larger part of his shot diet. That is MASSIVE.

And then we need to ask "do these significantly larger zero dribble 2 pt attempts actually help Amen's efficiency?"

Well yes because their zero dribble 2 pt attempts are literally the highest fg% of any other shot type on that chart for either guy. Jalen has 68% fg% on his 2 pt 0 dribble attempts and Amen has a 70% fg% on his 2 pt 0 dribble attempts, both the highest fg% out of any of their other shot types.

So yes, Amen's tips and dunker spot attempts help his finishing numbers A LOT.

Big game. The continued mystery around Tari’s health is disappointing. They keep saying this isn’t like last year, but sure feels like last year. Amen ready to show the world he a rich man’s MorantJJJ hybrid ;)

idk if it was due to sickness where jalen did not jump 50ft off the air to shoot his 3s vs the wizards but he needs to keep doing that.

i remember he was doing that early in the season (Oct period). his shots looks smoother. quicker release. use less legs energy where he's still explosive in the 4th quarter. then for some ODD reason, jalen went back to jumping 50ft off the air to get his 3s off even when the defender is 3 feet away. too inconsistent whenever he does this.

if the defender was tall and lanky then sure i completely understand but you can still counter that by putting more arc into his shots (ala curry).

jalen, no need to jump 50ft off the air to shoot open 3s. use your set shots instead.

If Morant is well and playing, it is going to be a tough one. Then again, on any given night the Rockets can beat anybody.

amen is stronger, quicker and better at 2nd jump, i'd even argue he's a better finisher than jalen.

jalen weave through defenders better because he can't really bump off anyone. amen prefers to go through defenders rather than around.

to me, both still need to work on ball handling and security especially around the paint and mid range area.
