Millions of people across Southern California are under a red flag warning as a dangerous windstorm fanned blazes in the Los Angeles area, including the Palisades Fire in coastal LA and
the Eaton Canyon Fire in Altadena, which has triggered evacuations and burned hundreds of acres.

    Palisades is an affuent neighorhood in Coastal Los Angeles, close to UCLA;
Altadena is a suburb north of LA, close to the Rose Bowl and the Rose Parade area
These blazes have exploded because of a combination of dry conditions and powerful winds, which are likely to strengthen overnight. More than 10,000 homes are under threat, Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin M. Crowley told reporters Tuesday, and roughly 30,000 residents are under evacuation orders.

A "Particularly Dangerous Situation" red flag warning has been issued for 19 million people in the region, including metropolitan Los Angeles.

The National Weather Service issued a critical fire risk alert for parts of Los Angeles and neighboring Ventura counties, with the storm beginning Tuesday afternoon and peaking early Wednesday.
The fire threat is expected to stick around through Friday.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday he would pre-emptively mobilize state resources to tackle the storm, including assigning 65 fire engines, seven water tenders, seven helicopters and 109 specialized workers.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has already declared a state of emergency due to the Palisades Fire.

From Cochella Valley in the California desert, President Biden made this announcement "Earlier tonight, FEMA approved a Fire Management Assistance Grant to support areas that are impacted
and help reimburse the state of California for the immediate firefighting costs. My Administration will do everything it can to support the response," "I urge the residents of the Pacific Palisades and
the surrounding areas of Los Angeles to stay vigilant and listen to local officials."

According to the tweet above, this is due to Gavin Newsome refusing to use funds dedicated to fire prevention. Wonder where those tax dollars went?

Had to sneak in the D&D worthy comment to provoke some nut job.

Anyways, the winds are gusting to borderline Cat 5 Hurricane strength (F3 tornado strength) in High Sierra. That’s incredible and an impressive storm system rolling down the plains.

There’s no stopping a fire in winds like that, prayers to all those in the way/being impacted. I’m sure if it was the other way around, they wouldn’t give two ****s about Houston or even Texas for that matter.

That was a bad quote. Trump, who is not a serious man, said at that press conference that the US should "divert" Canadian waters/rivers (or some such) to California. Who knows what crazy thought was in Trump's head?

Trump has also said that all we need to do is rake more of the forests to prevent wild fires ... more of a concept than a plan, methinks.

If only California had cleaned the forest floors and dampened them with water they wouldn't be having this problem.

No one knows more about wildfires and their prevention than Trump.

With one sharpie he could divert a hurricane and put out the fires in Cali but he won't because they're a blue state.

don't know the specifics but I do not believe that applies to federal lands--national forests, BLM land, national parks.

you do understand that the current fires are in the Los Angeles vicinity, a densely -populated metropolitan area, no?

other than post offices, Federal Buildings, military bases and VA hospitals, don't think the Federal Gov't owns any other real estates in the LA vicinity
