There were snide comments about Cam in G League when he had a great game. Heck, Cam has been playing well in the NBA lately and his body language is all anyone cares about or if he has a handle as tight as Green's.
He should stay in the G league for a while and continue to build on this. There's no need to yank him back to the Rockets anytime soon. If they think he can help in the playoffs then bring him back after the All Star break.
I agree. Give him the chance to put many good games together. I mean really blow his confidence through the roof. 8-10 games like this or close to it would do it. Even better if he were to play out the rest of the G league season. I think somebody said there were like 30 games left there.
I'm not sure it'll take that long, he doesn't really need development, he just needs to knock the rust off from not playing. The trade deadline is February 6 and there's a decent chance that some of the guys they have been showcasing like Tate and Holiday will be gone by then opening up more playing time.
I am strongly in favor of a long tenure in the G league, but they are not going to do it. His performance confirms rumors that he lights it up in practice and warm ups. He is not comfortable in the "real" games yet. If the team wasn't a contender I think it would be different.
I've been saying be patient with the guy. He's going to get his chance in the NBA, its just not going to be right now. When the Rockets figure out what they will do with FVV is probably when he becomes a mainstay on the main roster, but he has the tools to be a major problem in the NBA. Feisty defender, athletic for his size, shooter, and has PG skills. He's 20. Give him time.
He just needs some stints here and there to keep the rust off and his confidence up if he can't get consistent minutes or perform consistently with the big club. Based on last night, summer league, him in college, etc. he's obviously not some big project who needs a ton of development relative to a typical rookie. At a certain point destroying G League competition isn't going to do much for him either. The ideal situation would be for him to be on a bad but developing team with good coaching where he's playing 25-30 minutes a night. That's not going to be the situation here so his ultimate path towards regular minutes is going to need to come from him being able to play backup PG and perform at a high level. Wrecking shop in the G League isn't going to do that. He's just going to need to keep taking swings playing limited minutes where it's feasible and hopefully he can find consistency with his shot doing that. If he can't stick in the rotation, rinse and repeat with another G League stint.
Hopefully the last third of the season will be a great opportunity for Sheppard to play consistent minutes if we get through this tough part of the schedule and have secured playoff spot/seeding. Early on there wasn't a lot of wiggle room to play through mistakes. Even now only four games separate us from the 7th seed (play in tourney). Dropping a game here and there doesn't seem like a big deal, but the Western conference is a bloodbath in the middle.
If he can just stay with the Vipers until next Fridays game against the the spurs g league team that’d be great
He'll likely be with Rockets for the home game. I'd say he is likely that he goes back to the G League during the next road trip including next Friday's game.
I wouldn’t say Amen counts. That was due to injury. He was getting backup PG minutes right out of the gate … while Holiday was DNP. Wiseman, however, … Ime also had Amen playing backup PG for the Rockets first four games, prior to injury. Aaron Holiday didn’t get minutes until Amen’s injury That was the plan,,,find real minutes for Amen out of the gate. Coach even said Amen stood-out the most on early fall practices. GLeague was just to get him back into game shape
The NBA lights are too bright right now but I am guessing Rafel thinks he will adjust in time. Hopefully it's not the yips.
Anybody watch the game, how did we lose? At first glance it looks like all of our bench guys are playing so a little disappointing if our defense wasn’t good enough. Unless the other team just shot lights out. other than that, great encouraging game for Shepp!
