Maybe but the Turkish league is a much more fundamentally sound league than the G League....not even close. GLeague might have the better scorers but Alperen had all the time developing there. Sheppard would have been better equipped if he snubbed Kentucky to go to Europe and play there like Parsons did there.
He stayed up as long as he did because he has been very good in practice with the Rockets - as good as the starters. They figured he would eventually break through in his limited minutes but his performance back slid the last month so they sent him down…. I’m not surprised he is doing well, he can do a lot of things well. I think the limited minutes and poor 3 point shooting early this year got to him. He was up to 39% on 3’s at one point and then hasn’t been good since. I never expected a lot from him his first year in the league with his style of play and with FVV and JG on the team. I’ll be satisfied with him being the back up point guard with better efficiency next year and expect a jump by year 3.
i just want Reed to get more minutes. Holiday has been good, but Reed needs to be given the latitude to be able to fall flat on his face with the Rockets so he can work through it. Rockets will be better for it.
I'm thinking this g league stint will be 3 games, and that Holiday will be traded before the deadline. Hopefully competent rotations will be coming as well
Good to see him bombing away. I think he should stay down in the G League unless there's an injury on the Rockets or Holiday stops being viable. He just needs to keep playing minutes instead of spot minutes of the bench.
The Rockets aren’t perfect - but with Udoka getting rid of some toxic personalities and Porter gone — the Rockets have solved there culture issues. This group of players genuinely like and support each other… good mix with more fun loving guys like Green and Adams next to super intense guys that are more stoic like Amen and Smith… I haven’t heard of any internal fighting… even Holiday has been professional and waited his turn.
If he was a high assist guy he would have stuck but 6 ast vs 4 TO is just not convincing enough. But agreed that to make it in the NBA he has to either make a lot of 3s right off the bat or be an nearly elite passer because otherwise his job is given to the generic African American player. Show something special and what majority cannot do. They don't treat you differently because you are a mustached white boy with a baby face.
Sam Vecenie is very well connected around the league with executives and he recently said that teams are still very high on Sheppard and his slow start wasn’t terribly alarming.
