Lots of un-woke, racist opposition to Greenlandic independence in the other thread. I suspect the taint of the Trump connection is biasing everyone on the issue. So here is a Trump-free thread where rational discussion can take place about the liberation of Greenland.
https://thehill.com/policy/international/5066186-greenland-independence-donald-trump/ Greenland leader calls for independence from Denmark as Trump enters by Ashleigh Fields 01/03/25 4:06 PM ET Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede announced a desire to obtain independence from Denmark in the wake of President-elect Trump’s comments about buying the island territory. “The Greenlandic people's opportunity for independence has been adopted through the provisions of the Self-Government Act, thereby creating a legal basis for how independence can be achieved,” Egede said in a Wednesday speech in honor of the new year. “A draft constitution for our country has also been prepared," he said. "Work has already begun with regard to creating the framework for Greenland as an independent state within the possibilities and provisions of the Self-Government Act.” The leader said a new development for Greenland is “imminent” days after Trump took a second pass at purchasing the land, which sits in the prominent Arctic region. “For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” Trump said in a Dec. 22 Truth Social post. Egede hit back in a statement, declaring Greenland was not for sale and would undertake every effort to not be acquired by the U.S. “Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom,” Egede said. His New Year’s Day speech emphasized the autonomous territory’s developments, highlighting its opening of an international airport as a global pathway to change. “In the coming summer, it will now be possible to reach us directly from other countries, without first traveling via Denmark, it will therefore be possible for us to develop and govern our country more independently,” he added. He declared that new airports in Ilulissat and Qaqortoq were the next step in a process for an “improved” and “flexible” infrastructure that could bolster tourism and trade. Egede concluded his speech with well wishes for a prosperous new year.
I find it odd. Not once did the words "buy" or "purchase". He said "ownership" and "control", but never "purchase".
wrong thread, you're looking for the Trump thread: https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/...s-could-take-back-ownership-of-panama.324962/ this is the Greenlandic-freedom-fighters thread

Greenland finds itself a mere pawn amidst the growing tensions between Denmark and Trumplandia King of Denmark trolls Trump by changing royal coat of arms to make Greenland prominent https://nypost.com/2025/01/07/world...ging-royal-coat-of-arms-to-feature-greenland/ excerpt: The new king of Denmark has changed the country’s royal coat of arms to more prominently feature Greenland in an apparent rebuke of President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to take over the autonomous island. King Frederik X started the new year by revealing his new royal coat of arms, which for five centuries has featured the three crowns of the Kalmar Union — a polity that existed from 1397 to 1523 consisting of the kingdoms of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, the Guardian reported. The crowns have been removed and replaced by much larger images of a polar bear and ram — symbols of Greenland and the Faroe Islands, respectively. 4 The new Danish coat of arms (right) features a bear, the symbol of Greenland, and ram, the symbol of the Faroe Islands, more prominently. *** The changed coat of arms also shows the Danish king — who took the throne just under a year ago — has no intention of letting the territory rule itself. That, however, is supported by Egede, with the PM having called for the removal of its “shackles of the colonial era.” The relationship between Denmark and Greenland has been strained after an investigation revealed Danish colonial officials forced thousands of young Greenlandic women to use contraceptives to deplete the population in the 1960s and 1970s, according to the Guardian. more at the link
Denmark so jealous of their colonial possessions. You'd think woke Europeans would be outraged this 19th century colonial connection even still exists.
From what I gather, the independence movement in Greenland is seen as a long term goal, and in the short term they remain very dependent on Denmark subsidies. I don’t think there is popular support for their country coming under full control of the US, and they probably see this as undermining their aspirations for full independence and self-rule.
We could add Greenland as the 51st state for only $100 million. Promise each Greenland resident $1 million each ($57 million total), plus another $43 million for infrastructure projects, to declare independence from Denmark and then agree to join the Union. With that, the Democrats add two permanent Senate seats.
actually I did the math in one of these threads, using Biden's student loan forgiveness money. Biden could keep existing student loans in place, and give every Greenlander just over 3 million dollars each to invest or blow on fancy clothes and other luxury items.
