Did the name change from Bullets to Wizards effect homicide rates?

My take (that probably no one needs or wants here): Probably a good PR move to change the name, otherwise the association between the name and the violence becomes too much of what you are. BUT why the hell did you pick 'Wizards'? What the hell is that? The Washington Basketball Club would be better, the Washington Wampus Cats would be better. Wizards? really?

 

the Washington Bureaucrats? the Red Tape? so many options

Not enough people in DC care about the Wizards/Bullets for the change to have had an effect. IIRC the murder rate in DC at the time of the change was incidental. The owner of the team was friends with Yitzhak Rabin and didn't want the team to be named the Bullets after his assassination.

I'll be at the game tonight. Looking forward to seeing an annual easy win in DC.

Wizards are by far the worst team in the East.
If they give Houston a game, it will further prove the delusion of those here claiming "the West is far superior." Which is hilarious to anyone with any NBA knowledge at all.
