Depends on Amen being the future sf or pg of the team. Becuase no way is Sheppard talented enough to ever eventually take Amen's spot so if his spot is pg in the future then Reed is probably traded. I can see Reed being part of a future starting line up only if Amen is the future sf starter.
My guess is he wasn't in the gleague for a variety of reasons that have already been discussed but also they probably wanted him to be around the team to learn what's expected and learn from the vets. There's way more time with the team outside of the games than there is in games. The gleague will be a different environment with hungry guys trying to showcase themselves, not necessarily trying to help Reed. But, ultimately, Reed getting extended minutes against pros is more valuable now that it's clear he won't just turn it around on his own. He needs reps to get a feel for how to get his shot off against length and when to call your own number in an nba style offense.
Sheppard is 20 years old and only has one year of college experience and none as the primary ball handler. I never expected him to be an impactful player this season. If he was in the rotation by years end that would have been a resounding success in my book. He needs reps, desperately, as the ball dominant guy. He has to learn how to keep his dribble alive, and move in traffic. The shooting will be fine, other great shooters have had terrible first seasons.
Jalen Green multiple good games in a row. Amen Thompson starting. Reed Sheppard to G League. I'll take things long overdue for 500 Alex.
I expected he would be fine as an off ball guy very early on. I did not expect FVV to have the shooting issues he's had. I also expected Amen and Reed to work better together once we saw Reed playing on ball in Summer League and Preseason. He looks like he has the yips.
I’m honestly shocked this didn’t happen sooner, but I’m sure they had their reasons. Either way, this is a good move for Reed.
LOL, this is the one thing I find really odd, but maybe he had the work ethic and good practices where they thought he might be in the line-up over Cam & Aaron.
could be that IME wanted him in practice and to observe ganes to know what is expected. now time to put what he's learned to work in RGV
