Even if we didn't get lucky with the ping pong balls, NBAdraft.com currently has VJ Edgecombe at 8. I would not be mad, but of course he's not much of a 3 pt shooter.

Don't worry Tankathon has us taking Nolan Traore who is currently shooting 23% from 3.

Its funny how you can do 90% of the steps right and then fumble the last step and ruin everything. Suns would be in such a great spot if they didnt trade for Bradley Beal.

This fact certainly gives me pause about making a big trade. Conversely, the Cavs are a great example of what can happen if you nail the “last step.”

Still not convinced that team is going to do anything in the playoffs running those two tiny guards.

Fixed. The Suns overpaid for Durant. The Nets have gotten 9 FRPs from that deal already and probably will get 1-3 more when they deal Cam Johnson. I expect the Suns to get 1 maybe 2 picks back when they deal Durant. The Beal deal was a last ditch effort to save a sinking ship.

    All going according to Hoyle.

We're in the driver's seat to be contenders for the next decade.

yes an obvious tactic to get him to waive his NT clause. Make the guy miserable and he’ll want to leave. Sun’s org certainly building a player-friendly rep lol

Interesting. I was wondering about the logic behind this decision. His numbers aren’t too terrible — 18 ppg on .57 TS%. What a disaster trade for the Suns.

I guess they have to try something. Internal maneuvering is the only option when you are almost entirely locked out of making trades. This definitely feels like a last resort move.

Essentially the only pick Suns have to trade is 2031 pick. If a team were looking for a long term investment, seeing the current state of the Suns, it probably would not be a bad gamble to take on Beal's contract for the unprotected 2031 FRP. Very few teams can actually do this, but it is worth considering if you are rebuilding anyways and don't plan to be a player in the next few years.

    Examples:

I'm not saying that these trades would go through, just saying there is a path for Phoenix to get something out of Beal. It's not as if Beal is washed yet either, just gets injured a lot, so he does bring some value to those teams.

As for Beal, he can be unhappy in Phoenix (media makes it sound like this is the case) or he can go to another team, even if rebuilding, and try to help the young guys while maybe being happier. He ultimately controls this as well, so not sure if he would agree to a trade as well.

The thinking is sound. The team taking Beal (assuming Beal agrees), Nets/Blazers are renting their cap space for draft picks. MIA and PHX are so draft capital poor that not many picks are available.

If I'm Nets/Wiz/Blazers, I'd ask for way more. If Suns and Heat have 2nd rounders they should cough it up. Heat has some 2nd rounders (three?), but Riley's pride may not want to pay to get off of Jimmy.

It's one of those problems that other teams have that we as Rocket fans shouldn't have to solve for them. If fact, the longer Sun's grid lock situation, the better it is for our PHX picks.

Sadly - for them - it was known at the time that he had one of the worst contracts in the NBA and didn't fix their roster imbalance.

Ownership felt that it was the only viable option to improve the team. Derp.
