Butler is mad because he wants another superstar extension at his age.No team is gonna give him that extension, so you just inherit a headache. Likewise Miami can't keep him because Butler is 100% a player who has no issues causing a problem if unhappy.

He's still a hell of a player and would make any team quite a bit better, but there's too many looming complications to give up anything of value for him. Miami will just have to take anything they can get from a team that feels they are on the cusp of a title this season. To a degree that will create a bit of a bidding war between a small group of teams, but not much of one.

What's happening here? lol Can't say I've followed your guys arguments, but isn't the TS% basically a true total shooting percentage, measuring 2 pointers, 3 pointers, and free throws combined to determine players efficiency of shooting the ball?

Agree. Think John Wall. He can b**ch and moan all he wants, but that is a lot of money to walk away from.

Could see the Kings and Clippers get on the train as well, usual suspects to trade for elderly people.

I would be shocked if his next contract is over 35 million
If he opts out for something like . . i dunno 3 yrs 90-105 million
maybe but that would have to already be a hand shake deal
It would have to already be in place. . . no way he "tests the market"

    @clos4life @TimDuncanDonaut @bustamove @daywalker02

How this started was the user responded to a post of mine which explained what TS% measures. TS% is often confused with EFG%. It does not measure shooting accuracy. EFG% already measures shooting. TS% attempts to measure scoring accuracy and by taking into account FT’s and adding a .44 coefficient, it eliminates certain FT’s such as technical FT, three pt FT, and 1s as shooting possessions.

So it measures points generated per shooting possessions.

It’s simply a measure of scoring efficiency based on the number of points scored over the number of possessions or opportunities in which they attempted to score.

    TS% = Points / (2 * (Field Goal Attempts + 0.44 * Free Throw Attempts))

Again just one metric to measure a player’s offensive value not a complete metric. This is why multiple measurements are needed along with physically analyzing the game with knowledge of basketball principles and what right actually looks like.

It’s an interesting standoff. Only one team (BKN) has the ability to give Jimmy a max contract in free agency. A handful could offer around $30m, but most of those are not actively trying to win in the short term, so it makes no sense. Any team that trades for him should also have cleared out enough salary to be in the position to offer a max salary going forward, so Jimmy’s side had to make a trade the goal. But the Heat aren’t going to take back bad long-term contracts. So they will be picky about what deal they take, but I think a trade ultimately gets done.

If the Rockets want Jimmy, they should drag it out until the deadline. It should be clearly understood by him that the Rockets would not be extending him and they would only take him as a rental for this year and next. He has absolutely zero leverage to push for an extension.

    ts measures scoring efficiency
measure how many points a player gets out of a used possession

That is the problem for the Heat. I don't think there is any team that will extend Jimmy with the max he wants. I guess you never know, after the Suns did the Beal deal, but with the new rules I can't imagine any team throwing all their chips in on Jimmy. Jimmy is always hurt, cancerous, and way too expensive for anyone.

It's actually impossible for the 76ers to trade for Butler without including one of Maxey, Embiid or George.
They could give him the MLE in the off-season (lol - he ain't taking that), but can't make an in-season deal work.

...speaking of the Suns, they are the only team that said they aren't worried about the new CBA and they are still out there trying to salvage the season so.....but I have a hard time seeing a deal that gives Miami enough back to take on Beal's contract which is somehow worse than Butlers. They would need Houston to help them out with draft assets they don't control and I don't see Houston helping them with anything that doesn't involve Booker and then you defeat the purpose of the trade in the first place but I wonder out loud - would Phoenix be crazy enough to trade Booker to the Heat for Butler?

Better yet, they should get involved as the third team in a trade where someone ELSE gets Butler. Lose a player we don't really need and pick up a usable asset for the trouble.
