https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb-report...es-deal-is-19-years-old-not-14-022945322.html A prospect who had a massive deal lined up with the San Diego Padres is reportedly not whom he says is. An MLB investigation has found that top Dominican teenage prospect Cesar Altagracia falsified his paperwork and is actually 19 years old, not 14 as he previously claimed, according to ESPN. The teenager reportedly had a verbal agreement to sign with the Padres as an international free agent for roughly $4 million once he become eligible in January 2027, when he would have supposedly been 16 years old.
Hopefully more Venezuelan Position players in CF, SS, 2B, C. Astros Venezuelan Academy reopens there one day.
It seems like the Astros have Scouts in Venezuela and the Astros sign players and give the signed players airline tickets to the Astros Dominican Republic Baseball Academy to play there Full Time in the DSL Season. Plus there are English Teachers in their Classes.
My brother from another mother has a kid who's 14 or so now, and has a brilliant lefty swing, killing it in Austin travel team, but nobody is projecting him to MLB just yet like some of yall do with the Caribbean kids....because he's only 14 years old and working towards HS It's pretty insane, if you ask me.
Scouting report from Francys Romero. 3-OF Kevin Alvarez (Cuba) Houston Astros ($2,000,000) DOB: 1/13/2008 (16) / H: 6-4 / W: 180 / B: L/ T: L/ For several teams, Kevin Alvarez is regarded as the top hitter of the 24-25 international class. His bat has the potential to change the game. With many similarities to Kyle Tucker, he has worked hard to improve his body, adding muscle mass. Alvarez also has the potential to enhance skills like speed and defense, with the ability to play corner outfield and possibly center field. What truly stands out about Alvarez is his offensive game, which promises to be exceptional. “Outstanding makeup and work ethic”, said a scout in one of his reports about Kevin.
Ariel Ovando is the guy that I always remember. I'm super stoked every time we sign a player like this, but know to temper my expectations. Ovando was signed for $2.6M and yet never made it past A ball as he just flat out sucked.
A tall Cuban Alvarez with a special bat, great makeup and work ethic? When has one of those types ever worked out? I say sign him, but then trade him to the Dodgers for a middle reliever.
It’ll be very interesting to see how quickly Alvarez is brought to the US complex. He will start out ranked somewhere in the 7-20 range on Houston’s list but could shoot up very very high and fast if he comes stateside and performs.
I cannot believe that it's been 15 years since we were all pinning our hopes on Ariel Ovando becoming a future face of the franchise.
