Yes, it's also true the Suns don't currently have a pick to swap back with us.

I was more trying to clarify the Stepien rule as it pertains to the rockets which gets confused here quite a bit.

The Suns not having a pick is a downstream problem. It could potentially be fixed by sending one of their role players out for a very late first. Or, more likely, the Rockets using another of their future picks to acquire a 1st for the swap. The Suns would be in the driver's seat if Booker was actually available. We would just be the most likely trade partner.

I will say as long as the Rockets don't win the lottery or someone good is there at the Phoenix pick, I expect that pick is traded during the draft (but after the pick is selected to avoid the Stepien rule) for a future FRP or 2.

The luckiest thing that happened was not having to forfeit our picks to OKC in 21 and 23.

Don’t the Nets keep their pick?

I can't imagine the Suns run it back if they don't even make the play in

Aren’t we kind of in the same situation here where Phoenix has no reason to bottom out? I mean, they could get some pretty attractive assets for a couple of those guys no doubt.

The Nets do not get the Rockets' pick only their own pick back via Houston.

Phoenix has no reason to bottom out but no avenue to get better. KD & Booker will eventually force their way out.

Hmm i thought they got a choice between the 4 teams involved with swaps somewhere along the line. But that draft pick is incredibly difficult to follow ngl.

I thought bkn had their 1st and at least one more

Good summary of the Suns' situation (Rockets related).

And that’s why we are in the driver’s seat. When they finally realize that they are stuck with no way to improve and decide to trade off Durant or Booker to a team like Orlando, they are going to get a bunch of virtually worthless mid-20s picks back. When they decide to have their fire sale, they have to try to get their picks back from us or it makes little sense to become sellers at all. When it comes time to trade, they’ve pretty much got to ask our permission to blow their nose. But it’s also why we can’t break those picks up.

    We got this.

There two things I thought of that can help us.

    1. Keep betting against KD
Stone is now 2-0 betting against KD. When KD asks for a trade and PHX contacts Rockets to get their picks back Stone should ask more picks and swaps from whichever team KD is going to next. As good as KD is individually he has this wrong vibe that causes the situation to turn ugly eventually.

    2. We should pirate Tyus Jones.

Tyus Jones is one of the players keeping the Suns afloat. Suns wont be able to afford his bird rights and he is the only good pg insane enough to sign the vet min offer of the Suns. Rox should pirate him so the Suns collapse even more next year. We need a backup pg and Tyus is a decent 3 pt shooter. He will be an upgrade to Holiday.

That was dated by the time you posted it.

    Suns pick is currently #9.
If they lose to Philly tomorrow, that pick could go to #8.

In fairness, I can't really see the pick being any better than 8th, only because teams 1-7 aren't trying to win at all.

There is always that bouncing lottery ball that could work in our favor too since the odds have gotten better.
