That’s good. Maybe he and Osuna can be roommates and talk about how they ruined their MLB careers because they are pieces of ****… they can throw a pity party with that Mexican Dodgers pitcher that couldn’t stop hitting women. MLB doesn’t need Bauer -
There are teams that will pay all of Pressly’s contract - that isn’t the issue. The problem is that Pressly has decided he wants an extension if he is traded… otherwise he already would be gone.
Yes - Bauer can mentor Wander on the fine points of being a POS. Maybe they all can play on the same team.
That's going to make it really hard to trade him if he's wanting an extension. Really concerned about our pen. Hader and Abreu are the only two I have confidence in.
And that is his right. He should try to leverage what he can. He's from Dallas. His wife is from Houston. They have 2 young kids. If I were him, I'd probably only be interested in Arlington, where family is close, and he could stick it to us.
The way this board has talked about trading Pressly, I would have assumed he didn't have a NTC...completely forgot about the 10-5 rule myself. Everyone here has made it seem like shipping him out would be easy. Unless there is a financial incentive for him, I don't see why he would approve a trade anywhere. The only teams that would offer him a chance to close are probably not real contenders - why would you want to go to a non contender for a year without any guarantee of being there the following year? And if he's not closing, why would he want to go take the same role elsewhere, especially when once again he'd likely be on the move again the following year? Just doesn't make sense from his standpoint.
That is because of reports that he wasn't happy with his role and actually wanted a trade last year. Also, many fans posted assumptions here that finding a closer role on a different team is important enough to him that it woukd trump many other factors. Apparently, leveraging this opportunity into a better financial situation is the card he wants to play. I don't blame him a bit, and it's very smart as long as you don't mind staying in Houston and pitching the 7th inning. If it works and someone adds 1 yr and $10M, or another vesting option. Also, he and a team can still agree to a new contract and void this one. It's rare but does happen. Maybe 3 /$27-30M and void the 1 /$14M?
Pressly hasn't been ideal, but also hasn't been terrible. He even had a better ERA than our actual closer. Craig Kimbrel has been a closer despite a lot of struggles over the last 6 years. Kenley Jansen is still closing despite only having 1 season with an ERA under 3 since that 2017 WS (he's consistently good enough though). There are only so many guys that have proven they can pitch that 9th inning consistently.
One thing that the Astros should have done last season, Altuve should never be in the field for a Framber game. That's the perfect game to max infield defense and put Yordan in the outfield. I know Altuve is probably prideful like a lot of players about playing his position, but they have to start planning around his poor range even if it's a tough conversation to have. Dubon is an elite defensive 2B.
Let me rephrase...I'm asking right now what good team has a worse option currently and would want to trade for him and make him their closer? I can't think of one. I don't doubt he can still be a closer.
