If Mike Lamb turned into a passable third baseman... ...just realized how atrocious was the defense during that era...
Aside from grandpa Biggio who exactly was so atrocious in that era? Lamb wasn't the butcher some people seem to remember him being, he just wasn't nearly as good as Ensberg and Blum. The overall defense was good from 03-06, and featured some elite defensive seasons from Everett, Ensberg and Taveras.
Astros all defensive and no (power) hitting team: ss Adam Everett cf Willy Taveras c Brad Ausmus 3b Bill Spiers Who else we got?
The Lamb 3 errors in spring training is seated into my memory. Kent was not great at 2nd... neither was Berkman at center. Everett was incredible though but Tejada... ugh. Then no shoulder Bagwell with everyone shifting trying to cover for him...
I would have Marisnick over Taveras... James Mouton comes to mind. Greinke was great defensively but was too good offensively to be on this list.
A repeat passed ball champion is not a great defensive player. Plus, he was a silver slugger finalist.
“Maldonado will presumably not take home the award after a season slashing .186/.248/.352.” glitch in the system.
Possible roster: cf Willy Taveras ss Adam Everett 3b Bill Spiers lf Jake Marisnik dh Gerald Young 2b Tim Bogar 1b Dave Bergman c Brad Ausmus rf Myles Straw May be good for 0.5 runs per game and guaranteed worst season in the history of baseball... ever
