You are still on dial up Internet if you still think Hali is struggling. His first month or 6 weeks he struggled in road games and the Pacers were poor but any outlet with any credibility has noticed he is back. Haliburton is the only player in NBA history to put up 30+ points, 15+ assists, 5+ 3PM, and 0 turnovers in a game. The other night he did this for the 2nd time. Only Chris Paul has more games with 15 assists and no turnovers and is still active, Stockton has 14 such games. Hali has done it 9 times yet he is only 24. The Pacers are now on a good run with Hali back to form. They have won 8 of their last 11 where 2 of those losses were to OKC and Boston on a back to back. No shame there. Haliburton is top class. The sort of top level back court upgrade the rockets need and Hemingway is wise to suggest targeting. However astrosrule is correct, the package needed would be a kings ransom. I do agree with you that the Bridges and such trades are overpays to ignore but they are irrelevant here. Haliburton is just class.
They all went for less than I expected except Bridges the anomaly. It doesn't have to be a crappy offer but it also for sure 10000000% will not be the most expensive trade in NBA history to acquire Tyrese Haliburton and Turner. You agree Tyrese Haliburton is not going to net the most draft picks in NBA history right? I'd offer 1 great pick plus our 3 worst picks plus FVV. That's it. 4 picks is plenty for a one way 3pters and assists guy. He won't be able to impact the floor at a max level without scoring 25+ ppg efficiently or adding defense to his game. Defense is half the game, he's playing at a 50% handicap. He has to make significantly more 3's to be worth the max on the floor. He also reeks of an injury prone player, just a gut feeling, he hasn't been injured that much. We have to be careful. Wouldn't traded anything for him last season as far as picks, but this season showed me huge risks with his floor and ceiling.
What i would offer and what it would take to actually make a trade are very different. There's no chance in hell indy would take your offer, so it's irrelevant. I always try to come at it from a "what it would actually take" perspective, not what i would personally give up.
Look if you're defending their valuation, then you are making a case it's reasonable. I'm very confused at the concept of defending something you think is crazy to pay. Unless what you mean to say is their organization is incompetent or unreasonable. If they're not trading him, they're not trading him even for 10 picks. But if he is available, there is no chance he goes for more than 5 picks. So to say 4 is "no way in hell" is totally unreasonable. I also don't think 29 other GM's are paying 5 picks for a no-defense player with injury concerns. It's just 18 pts and 8 assists on a contender and absolutely nothing else. No rebounds, no steals, no defense, no FT's to get easy points or create foul trouble, nothing. Just 18 points on 14 shots and 8.8 assists. Go look at on court impact of players like that. Waste of money @ $40m+.
Ya i think most trades for stars are overpays unless it's someone who truly makes you a title contender or favorite. I think 5 firsts for bridges is insane, i think 4 picks + 2 players who are worth 4-5 picks for durant was insane. Harden went for 4 picks and 4 swaps. The pick quality is a big part of it, there's a massive difference in offering the 27 suns pick and the 28 rockets pick. One is worth a massive amount and one is worth little. This is part of why i'm so against a fox trade. People think it would be fvv and one pick or something, but it wouldn't. It would be fvv and a bunch of picks, because fox is a "star". You don't need 29 GMs to be willing to make a crazy trade, you only need 1.
It would not be FVV and a bunch of picks. It would be expirings and a bunch of picks/young players. Edit: At least of it is in season.
Man, I'm starting to lean back to into the "don't do anything" camp. The fact that we beat a healthy Lakers despite missing Eason and Bari is pretty darn impressive.
If it were preseason hype version of Reed Sheppard where people were saying he was going to make Jalen Green obsolete within the first couple of months of the season, then you could have done then the Bills would have pulled the trigger on that hypothetical in a heartbeat. Now, ya....
Just don't see the Rockets trading for a Lavine type player. They're going big with a superstar or staying put and growing internally. I just don't see Stone breaking up the young core to get Lavine level players.
I think they are going to have to pay something to get rid of someone. Bulls in the past have done moves like these.
