Could be because the Rockets have the easiest pathway to making the trade happen if they want him.

I have zero interest in butler because he doesn't fit our timeline at all, but lets not be crazy. Butler has a 113 TS+ and Brooks has a 96 TS+. Butler is also better at literally everything on the court except man to man defense. Let's not be crazy here.

Don’t want Beal, don’t want the spare parts, no picks, so what are they offering (“not lowballing”)
Edit: If the Suns are a 2nd apron team, can’t aggregate salaries either.

I haven't kept up with the Jimmy drama. From my understanding he wanted a max extension from the Heat as part of a legacy contract (doing him a solid for his time with the Heat). Riley wasn't going to give that to him (nor should he), but I'd like to think Jimmy knows he's not getting that anywhere. I wonder if the next team he goes to he's fine with a reasonable contract given his age. Could it be his disgruntled posture is simply because Riley didn't follow through on a max extension as he thought he would have? I'm just having a hard time seeing Jimmy realistically expecting max money from any team next year.

It’s the same as the Harden situation.

Does Jimmy have any super pals out there? Taking him on the cheap could get another star to force a trade to Houston. Of course, his eclectic reputation may not have folks lining up to join him.

I’m having a hard time seeing anyone think these stars are “realistic” lol.

jk. But yea, there’s nothing realistic about most of these stars. Probably one of the reasons they became stars. Butler is still hoping for that max. No doubt.

He still is, mainly due to his playmaking, but also his rebounding and rim finishing. They're similar as shooters IMO, although Jimmy only takes threes when he's wide open because he's so good at getting better shots for himself or others. Butler's percentages have been better the last three seasons combined.

But I don't want to give up Brooks for him, I'd rather have them play next to each other the rest of the season if we were to trade for Jimmy. I also don't want to give up FVV in the deal, as the whole point would be to have Butler on as a rental and try to go deep with him, i.e. the 2019 Raptors renting Kawhi Leonard. Giving up our only true/fully-developed point guard, and our only starter with a championship ring, even if he's been in a massive shooting slump, is not the path to doing that. Plus, I think adding Jimmy but sending out another starter is too much damage to our chemistry given our goals.

The whole point would be to try to get to at least the WCF and get the young core a lot more playoff experience. And if you can make it that far, who knows what could happen with injuries to other teams and such?

This would be my best offer to the Heat:

Our depth would take a big hit, we'd probably need to either trade for a backup center or pick one up on the waiver wire. Although once Jabari gets back I think a combo of him and Amen could probably do okay and we could just play small ball most nights. But again, whole point is to maintain our status as a high playoff seed and try to go deep.

If you have $100 you can afford to throw away, I’d take those Grizzlies odds lol

That can’t possibly be your comeback to everything lmao. Weak and not very creative. Me calling you a bi+ch is solely because you’re a bi+ch. nothing else :D

Pass. Butler has an ego and has had issues with several organizations in the past. Not even the same player. Possibly would be disruptive to what Udoka will build here. Similar to possibly why they passed on Harden

They can probably find better, but that's the most I'd do, and I'd only do it if he agrees not to exercise his player option.

Actually Brooks is a much better shooter. For their careers, Brooks shoots a higher % on double the volume.

Having said that, Butler since last season is shooting 38% pretty consistently. Another one of those anomalies.
