I'm not sure how the OP came to the conclusion that Jalen has added a midrange game. His midrange shooting is the worst in his career. And he's shooting more 3s on a worst percentage than any time in his career.
@hlmbasketball here's just a few of the numbers Sengun: +6.1 BPM, 2.2 VORP, 4.4 WS ------- Jalen: -0.5 BPM, 0.4 VORP, 1.9 WS Sengun: 22.6 PER, Jalen 13.6 PER Sengun: Rockets offense scores 115.4 with him, 108.5 without him, defense gives up 107.2 with him 107.9 without him Jalen: Rockets offense scores 113.3 with him, 112.1 without him, defense gives up 110.1 with him 102.1 without him EPM has Sengun 29th with a +3.0, Jalen 159th with a -0.3 To say that they have been about equal, you would have to conclude that EVERY metric is completely wrong and all of the on/off is variance/randomness. How do you look at those numbers/metrics and conclude they have been about the same?
So, let's see if I understand this correctly. People who think a player who has won mvp at a major league as an 18 year old, who has improved every single year, both physically and skillwise, both on offense and defense are acting on a faith basis. And the player miraculously emerges as an all-star candidate and shows up in mvp ladders at 22 years. But people who think of the player that hasn't improved statistically on offense for 4 years is on the same level and have more potential are the reasonable ones. It is one level not to see things as they develop, but this is sure another level.
If in 27-28 he is the exact same player. He will be expiring and we can deal him. Who knows, maybe we trade him before then. I view Alpi /Sengun As the tier one future players, so everything else can just play out.
We all want to have 5 alpis on the floor but unfortunately we'll have to take the next best option with Amen and Sengun.
To be fair the entire NBA is jacking up 3's. It's tough to watch. A have friends who have pretty much given up watching basketball. His defense is definitely better. On offense...meh. I'll have to see it consistently before saying he's improved ther
I barely watched any of the bubble but you're definitely right. I also can't stand Lebron and the Lakers being shoved down our throats. The bubble shouldn't count. They should have just shut it down
While that may be true with some metrics (particularly PER), its not true for every metric. Couple of examples: (1) Wins Produced was created by a professor of economics and an MA in mathematics. The research behind that metric has been published in peer reviewed journals. (2) RAPTOR was created by Nate Silver who is an excellent statistician. (3) Krishna Narsu, the co-creator of LEBRON was an analytics consultant for the Mavs. Anyway, I've said my piece and I suspect our disagreement is unresolvable.
It seems like you haven’t been watching him lately. Like I mentioned, he really seems to be putting it all together in recent games...
I guess you have watched the NBA for years or even decades now...... He is not a rookie that you have to evaluate every month, he has been in the league for 4 straight years soon. As a bona fide NBA player you wait for the season to end and then conclude your opinions. Everything else is just too small a fragment to deal with.
He has always been a three level scorer... occasionally... when in rhythm... when someone boosted his fragile confidence.... during a full moon.... on Sundays. Jalen will have some good games.. followed by a bunch of terrible ones. One day you will learn.
last 10 games 7.7 FGM 17.7 FGA 43.5 FG% 2.2 3FGM 7.4 3FGA 29.7 3FG% 52.4 TS% last 5 games 8.4 FGM 19.6 FGA 42.9 FG% 3.0 3FGM 8.2 3FGA 36.6 3FG% 53.3 TS% in the last 5 games, he been shooting three's at an average rate but still pretty bad overall FG% and TS% just like everyone been saying with the volume of threes he's taking he needs to make them at an above average rate or at least average rate for SG which is 36.8%
@Hemingway any comments about Booker to Houston for VanVleet? Currently Booker is shooting 34% (3P%)....41.7% lt corner....33.3% rt corner...33.9% ATB 38% (3P%), 7.4 Ast, 23 pts in last 5 gsmes Tyus Jones is shooting 44% (3P%)...51.7% lt corner...38.7% rt corner...42.2% ATB
I have totally changed my mind on Booker. I don't really want him for his salary much less giving up all our picks. I don't like the idea of Fox either unless it is one of our own picks and FVV. I'd like to unload FVV but not at the cost of valuable picks. The only three stars I want that might at some point be gettable are Ant, Lamello, or Giannis. I believe Lamello would have to be a three way trade, because they will want players not draft picks, which they are already loaded with. I say we just build depth with minor trades until the off-season or stand pat until the off-season. I know it won't happen, but I'd love for us to get FVV out of the starting line-up if we can't trade him to somebody that wants an expiring contract and get positive assets in return. Barring that we should just not pick up his option.
Suns have a gun to their head as a 2nd Apron team. I don't see why T-Wolves and Bucks would trade their main star and why Ant-Man and Giannis would demand a trade when the teams bend over backwards for those stars. Player.........................(24/25).....(25/26).....(26/27).......(27/28) Booker (age 29) ..…....$49.4M...$53.7M.....$57.3M.........$61.2M Giannis (age 30).........$48.8M....$54.7M....$59.M...........$63.4M Suns would be getting some of their own picks back. Salary relief in VanVleet team option for next season. Around $44.9M cut off. Windows open and close quickly. I feel waiting for this summer will cost too much. And the free agent list is just Kyrie Irving and nobody else. Kyrie looks like he still has 3 more years in him......the others, no.
Not say stats don't hold some significants, however I just dont see them as the be all end all that you do. Mainly, because the stats you just presented are based upon that player's +/- with four other players who either benefit or distract him, correct? If stats were the true makeup of a.player, then Reed Sheppard would be in the rotation and and currently hitting above 35% from 3pt, correct? The only thing I'm saying is you can not put everything into stats. The EYE TEST is the best test.
It is a nice trend but I knew beforehand that Jalen loves playing the Celtics......this went back to his Rookie Season.
Only some of the stats are +/-, most of them aren’t. Is your opinion that those numbers are wrong? Do you believe it’s possible based on those stats that jalen and sengun have been equally good this season?
