Is the Astros top off season priority in the outfield? No. Maybe it's pitching? I don't think so. How about reducing payroll to below the competitive balance tax level? There you go! Do not look for more spending unless and until a significant payroll reduction is completed.
It has to be OF at this point. You might as well wave the white flag if you're going into the season with McCormick/Meyers/Dubon/Melton. That's not gonna get it done. Santander appears to be costing in the $21 million range (projected 4 yr/84M). We are at $255 million in payroll. We would have to ship off Pressly in a trade to sign a player like Santander (which I'd be over the moon if those 2 events took place). The next tax threshold is $261 million.
You need to take all these articles with a most humongous grain of proverbial salt. Always written by small time outfits by people you've never heard of. My news feed is unfortunately littered with these articles. I don't even click on them anymore.
Are there teams that have a surplus of Outfielders that in need of a closer or bullpen help? Even OF prospects who are blocked by established veterans
of course we were. Santander is not the player worth going over the tax for, Not at his age and expected contract amount in length, at least.
