We have no new information. I think we can just give this one a rest until he heads to the g league or gets minutes again.
For folks who think reed be fine like, I'm not sure we are watching the same guy on the court. Man is really struggling on the court to even put up pts. U thought green and smith didn't earn their mins? Reed aside from that one game where he made his 3s, nothing from his games warrant more mins. The expectation for a 3rd pick should b a lot higher with the amount of btching we had from folks over the last few season about Smith and Green. Yet somehow Reed is getting a pass by the same folks for being straight up @ss cheeks. Not even sure Reed can put up 10 pts a game with how scare he is to shoot the dam ball
Reed is being wasted. His confidence has to be at rock bottom and I can't see any point in handling him the way that they are. He needs to be on the court and he's not good enough to do it right now in the NBA. The solution is obvious. WTF are they waiting for? I just don't get what they are doing with him at all.
The people that thought Green and Smith didn't earn their minutes aren't saying anything because Sheppard's not getting any minutes. He's already lost his spot in the rotation and the overwhelming consensus is that he should be in the G league. Not much else to say at this point.
Sheppard matched the 0 points Holiday scored in 19 minutes on 4 shot attempts in only 5 minutes without even a single shot attempt.... but it's really good we keep playing Holiday.
Picking someone #3 overall and gluing them to the bench is borderline malpractice. I don't care if he isn't ready yet, if that's your determination then he should be getting reps in the G-league. Saying "oh we can't put a top pick in the G-league" is a sunk cost fallacy. Him bringing people water when he's 20 years old is an absolute waste of everyone's time and resources. If that's your "development plan" then it better pay off like Aaron Rodgers shadowing Brett Favre...
That has been my complaint all along. Sheppard has definitely struggled dialing in his shot, but prioritizing Aaron Holiday who is terrible and has no future here....or even in the league in general while not even sending Sheppard to the G league to get some reps is flat out stupid. If they gave Sheppard the 228 minutes they've given Holiday, it wouldn't effect the win loss record whatsoever, but would almost double the in game experience Sheppard has at this point....and for all we know, it would have helped him get out of his cold shooting streak already. I get the idea that maybe you want to play Holiday to increase his trade value or something like that, but you don't do those things to the detriment of the young guys......and even if we all got behind that, why not send Sheppard to the G league during the time you are trying to prop up the trade value of guys you are looking to dump at the deadline? There's simply no way to make it make sense.
Holiday had a solid stretch to start the year, in all fairness. He has sucked the last few games though.
Not overly wanting to toss that card but whoever puts his eggs in that basket of a white dude, that dude has either be Flagg or Larry Bird. And Nash was a defensive sieve. The odds of a Nash or Stockton is just 5% at best. Rockets made an honest mistake, happens. Second time they fell for the College shooting hype. 3rd time is a charm? I feel pity for Reed, nothing else, not really wanting to be mean to his baby face, sincere wishes to him.
Sure, but nothing that moves the needle. The only game you can even argue he impacted at all was a game against the Clippers we won by 11 where he scored 11 points in 18 minutes.
He's better than Reed right now, especially defensively. I do agree with you though, I'd be more focused on developing Reed either by continuing to be patient with his regular minutes, or by sending him to the g league. I'd be willing to drop a few games here and there if it meant Reed was gaining experience.
The numbers suggest otherwise when it comes to defense, but he's definitely shooting better. Even though most apparently can't see it, Reed Sheppard is a STOCKS machine....just doesn't matter when he's got a 36% TS%. But I think we both agree that getting him the experience to work through his nerves or whatever is throwing his shot off should be a top priority....especially when it wouldn't even cost the team any games. If he had a broken shot, I'd feel different, but his mechanics are basically flawless, that's why I think he SHOULD be able to work through whatever the problem is relatively quickly.
Reed Sheppard defense: You could live with it if he wasnt shooting 28% from 3 as a "generational" shooter. He hasnt left any single lasting impression on a game this year. Almost all rookies get that one game or two that you say 'damn ok'. I wonder how badly he's getting his cheeks clapped in practice for him to fall all the way out of the rotation especially when we are short handed? Should have drafted Knecht at least he offers you some size and leaves an imprint when he plays.
He ain’t getting a pass from me. He currently may be the worst draft pick in Rockets history and it is ridiculous that a non-scout such as me was screaming from the rooftops to take Edey in the draft and not Reed. There was true hope that he could be the next Curry, but the downside was enormous based on history of players with his limited skillset. In all seriousness, the failure of this pick severely hurts the future of this team. How nice it would have been last night to counter the Celtics two bigs with Edey (or Clingan) and Sengun.
LOL. Edey and Clingan are stiffs that are destined to bench roles their entire careers just like Reed. Everybody in this draft sucks with the possible exception of Castle.
