You would have thought that the last 4l or 5 years would have taught us that when a supposed expert says something obviously and verifiably false, you don't just take them at their word, especially when there's motive to lie.

I think it's pretty clear from his last interview that that's how he thinks things are earned. I don't think you understand that it's not a good thing.

He should be asking how he can get his own rather than asking why he didn't get someone else's.

Anyway, Cam loves Jalen he's not going to feel the way you do about Green lol.

Hopefully, Cam will learn from this little blurb that there are lines you can't cross when doing interviews. If you do, someone will rip into you. There is a reason that we hear those recycled "coach/player-speak" lines.

For the game, Cam touched the ball 24 total times (per Player Tracking) in his 24 minutes. If I'm him and I got up 9 shots, made 7 of them, and scored 18 points, I'd also be disappointed.

This guy is talented and needs more plays to run for him. Can you imagine a young Michael Jordan on the court gingerly dribbling the ball over to veteran PG Wes Matthews Sr. and then shuffling over to the corner?

Though he's not Mike, Cam probably sees himself as that hall-of-fame talent. He's making his shots and has a tiny role, as well as Udoka's short leash. He probably thinks he should be out there longer. Shouldn't he be given more chances to impact the game when he's out there? Probably so, but Cam showed a lot of obedience, accepting this minor role (2nd/4th quarter) in the Mavs game, mainly playing under control and taking advantage when things opened up.

Is Cam satisfied? No, and I kinda of love that about him.

Finally, in the last seconds of the game, with a considerable lead, Cam has the ball go off Prosper's foot (kicked ball? no call). So Cam doesn't sprint back and gives up the layup. How in the world can you gripe at Cam? He would probably be ejected for starting another fight if he muscled up on Prosper.

Barring injury, Cam will likely be an All Star one day, if not a Superstar.

Give him minutes and space to mature.

    It's all good.

I think this is all being blown out of proportion.

I don't know what rTS is but I'm looking at what Cam has done up to this point compared to Jalen's rookie year given a Feb vs July birthday and Cam not getting to play much early as a rookie. Most of the advanced stats show Cam making a better contribution than Jalen did then. Jalen was awful as a rookie. He was a rookie chucker on a bad team without direction, so that happens, but the Rockets were something like 8-6 when he didn't play and 12-56 with him in the lineup.

The creation stat is a red herring because it's not like Jalen was efficient off ball either. If you can create more but it's still not good and you aren't good offball, what does it matter? Reed is a better shot blocker than Fred, but it's not going to get him any of Fred's minutes on its own.

He said and acted how I would expect a 20-year-old introverted and awkward kid to act when a bunch of older people shove a microphone in his face and ask him questions, he doesn't want to answer.

Jalen Green not being a efficient lead scorer on a good NBA team is irrelevant to the fact that Cam is worse at it than Green given that your entire premise is you want to replace Green's role with Cam. That means you are asking Cam to do what Green does which is attack POA defenses off the dribble.

If your premise is "Green ain't it as a lead scorer on a contender, therefore we need to trade him and some picks for someone who could be that" then your argument makes some sense. But you are asking a player that has worse handles than Green, has worse offensive bag, worse tunnel vision, worse touch around the rim to replace Green.

Keep in mind Cam with his limited minutes still does lazy defensive plays that you'd expect a player with heavy tired legs to do. Now ask yourself how will his defense now look playing 30+ minutes per game and being asked to score against set ppa defenses off he dribble which requires energy also.

The Jalen Green versus Cameron Whitmore discussion is odd.

    They both can be successful.

Having said that, if I had to wager, I don't think either of them will be starting for the Rockets in 24 months.

The NBA is very volatile and quick changing. 24 months is an eternity statistically for players that are not already proven and established.

It doesn't have to be a discussion because they are different archetype players with different roles.

Yes, and they both don't have to eat into each other's minutes.

Naw actually in my post you responded to I said Green is better now than Cam is so I get why Cam can't really take his minutes. I also think in terms of what they can do as a complete basketball player that can help a team win games that Cam is better right now than 20 year old Jalen was at that point and that between the two I think there are better odds Cam ultimately becomes an all star caliber player, though more than likely neither of them reach that caliber.

I understand that is what you believe. You've repeated this premise with slightly different variation of wording now without adding anything new to the actual basketball points I make that show why I think this premise is wrong.

You are restating your original argument with slightly different variations in wording without addressing any new points I make that suggests why the original point is wrong.

So yes I understand you believe Cam has more potential. I've explained why that isn't the case with on court basketball analysis and you just repeat the original argument.

I could see that. Jalen isn't a starting caliber player, the Rockets are looking to upgrade, and i don't think Cam and Ime are a fit.

Also, it's not Cam vs Jalen necessarily. The point was that Cam sees guys who make 5 to 10 times what he makes that get all the playing time in the world and it doesn't matter how bad they play, they NEVER have to earn any of it.

That kind of thing is super frustrating for a young player that keeps being told they have to earn everything while they watch from RGV. That frustration gets worse when they outplay those guys after earning their way back and it doesn't matter.

They can both be good and long term play together. I remember last year before the March explosion basically every Rockets player and lineup had worse stats and performance with Jalen on the court with Cam as the lone exception. But realistically with the current roster composition, if Cam was going to take someone's minutes or role for at least part of the game IMO Jalen is the most obvious. That's why you see the discussion.

I also agree that two years from now the odds are better than even that neither of them are starting for the Rockets.

If he had Reeds demeanor he might be terrified to take a shot or drive into any contact.

The Rockets are 22-11 and have made great progress since Ime was hired. For now, I’m content to let coach do his thing and not second guess everything he does. Coach sees these guys everyday in practice and in the locker room, while we only see what happens during games. Cam is very young and impatient. He wants what he wants right now. Ime is trying to teach him how to be a complete player. Again, Ime sees these guys everyday, we do not.

I think it is reasonable for Cam to be frustrated for the very reasons you suggest. If Ime or Stone punish him for his comments than they should be held accountable for how poorly FVV, Jalen, and Reed are playing while they do nothing to correct the lineup.
