Sure, you let him expire and don't pick up the option and renounce all of your free agent cap holds as well as declined the option of Landale. Now explain how you intend to pay your next point guard with no more than $19,293,049 in cap space. You'll also need a new backup C because you declined Landale's option & and renounced Adams' cap hold. After filling those two positions, you'll still have 4 more roster spots to fill ..... with nothing but minimum contracts. Your options are so limited in that scenario that you are almost forced to use FVV's contract to acquire his replacement via trade. This is why I feel it's so important to make the move to a new point guard before the trade deadline, otherwise you are picking up FVV at an even higher rate for a full season instead of just the rest of this year which may be appealing to some team looking to have cap space in the offseason.
The only way Fox comes here he would have to say “I will only resign with Houston”. I believe Spurs will throw everything at the Kings to pair him with Wemby.
Fox is a much better fit in SA than he is here and he would help propel them to the play-ins at least if Wemby stays healthy and can keep up the good 3 pt shooting. I'm not sure SA is going to give up on Cooper Flagg though. If they don't go after someone like Fox, I look for Wemby to have some type of lingering injury to increase their odds in the lottery.
If they got to keep Steph Castle, I could see Castle playing the guard dawg for De'Aaron. Probably gone or Vassell/Keldon/Sochan gone.
In an ideal trade, we probably trade FVV + Suns pick for Booker and Jalen + Cam/Reed + Adams (salary) + our own picks for Fox. Fox/Holiday Booker/Amen Dillon/Tari Jabari/Tate/Unc Sengun/Jock Extend Bari and Tari to team friendly contracts (which shouldn't be hard given Bari's production and Tari's injuries). As long as Fox doesn't make all-nba he won't be eligible for supermax extension. Amen might command a lot by year 3 but by then we can decide if paying him will be worth it.
I can see that, my stance was I disagree with that bleacher report package, which is on par with a player who has already accomplished that, like Mitchell or higher like an MVP caliber player. I would say 25 pts a game isn't what it used to be with scoring inflation compared to some of those guys mentioned. But he's a fantastic athlete with proven playmaking ability, and may grow in the right system. Also I think we're downplaying how good Cam could be and his potential. He could be a 25 pts scorer by himself over his career. If the trade package was scaled down a bit from the that report I could see it
As much as I think Fox would be an upgrade worth exploring, I do not want to get into a bidding war with SA. If they throw the majority of their warchest, I’m happy to let them do so to take them out of contention for other potential players. I’m all for driving the price up to get SA to over pay. If we can get Fox at the right price, sure. But happy to be used as leverage to gut SA as well and pass on Fox if they want to throw all their picks at Sac.
Define "right price." I believe a guy like Fox or Booker could be our final piece. If we could put together a trade where we get one of those two but keep Amen, Sengun, and Bari, I'm pretty okay getting into a bidding war.
I’m good with one of FVV or JG + Tari OR (Cam & Reed) + 3 picks (not Suns). that leaves us room to upgrade still should another option become available. If it takes Amen and/or the suns picks I’m out. But again….happy to posture as though I would be willing to trade those to get SA to fork over more.
3.5 years was plenty of time for Jalen put on the requisite size and strength, which begs the question - Why didn't Jalen? By all accounts, JG is a hard-worker, so it's preplexing why he still doesn't have a NBA body. Imagine JG with a comparable size and strength to someone like Cam. His "strength" is getting to the rim by utilizing his innate physical attributes. Makes sense to transform his body in order to absorb contact better.
Damn talk about a dream scenario! This would be amazing. Booker Fox Sengun and Amen is a hell of a star core with solid role players still left on the team. Could even add Malcolm Brogden for some seconds for the bench squad.
SAC: FVV + Amen HOU: Fox + Heurter No picks given. They get a young prospect and a solid pg in FVV to still play with Sabonis as they re-tool. McNair's job is in jeopardy after he fired Brown. Their fan base rather not start from the ground up. We get Fox and a shooter. Trading DEF for OFF. HOU keeps the PHX picks in case later Booker or another star shakes loose. We still have defensive wing depth in Dillon and Tari.
I feel this way about all our guys honestly, the two main ones are Jalen and Sengun, and then to a lesser degree Jabari. But it was very clear when all 3 of these guys came into the league that their success in the NBA would require a drastic body transformation. And all 3 of them are just not doing it at all. Jabari and Jalen are still string beans, Sengun is still doughy, gets blocked by the front of the rim at 6'11, and has conditioning issues that affect his play late in games. It's really disappointing and I don't really get why it's not addressed or emphasized.
I think JG just doesn’t have that type of body. Seems like a guy who will always have a thin slender frame. Athletes also don’t want to put on a bunch of weight at once as it’d mess up with their muscle memory and speed. I understand especially them being cautious with that with Jalen, as that is his biggest differentiator. My personal opinion though is there might be a better version of JG who is bulkier and a tad slower so that he doesn’t get swatted away by defenses, has an extra second to process and maybe can more effectively decelerate and stop.
Watching dearon Fox try to lead the kings back since it's only game on and I'm not working tomorrow, he is a stud. Hes got shades of Jalen in terms of abilities to slice into the lane but he makes those layups that Jalen misses He would be amazing on this team
