Your whole trolling schtick is getting pretty tiresome. Maybe some enjoy that and the general rudeness but i do not. Take care.
See spoken like a true Reedster which is what I expect from someone who said Brickpard is better than Fox. Theres no rational conversation to be had with people like your post is just ad hominem attacks at people who criticize Brickpard and when somebody responds with facts your reply is you are a troll.
Just because it doesn't feel that way doesn't mean that's the case. What sounds like hate for Reed is really the anger of missing out on the excitement of the rookie season experience.
Sorry, I compared him to bust/scrubs before the draft so I'm not going to shy away from that now: Same dudes I compared him to pre draft are who I will compare him to now. First seasons Stat...........Fredette......Bryce Drew......McClung........Reed Sheppard Games...........61......................34..................2..........................29 ( currently) Minutes.........18.6..................13.0...............12.5.....................11.9 FGA's..............7.3....................3.8.................3.0.......................4.1 FG%...............38.6%...............36.4%............50.0%...................32.3% 3PA's..............3.5.....................1.4.................1.5 ......................2.3 3P%................36.1%...............32.7%...........33.3%....................27.9% TOV's..............1.1.....................0.9................1.5........................0.6 Rebs................1.2....................0.9.................1.5.......................1.3 Asts.................1.8....................1.5.................0.5.......................1.2 Pts...................7.6....................3.5.................4.0.......................3.4 I'm not saying Reed Sheppard is a bust yet, but the trajectory is not promising. I see issues with his shooting that will need an off-season to work on.....or live action vs lesser competition. Before season I said he won't shoot no 52% from 3 for the season, not in this league; but eventually I could see 37% to 42%. Kid needs to be wide wide wide open right now.
Reed hasn’t gotten comfortable in the NBA, he is missing way too many open shots. Those are shots that are definitely makable. He’s done some good things on the court, but he looks frazzled most of his 4-6 minutes that he’s in the game. And that is perplexing, because you know he’s been groomed for playing in front of big crowds by his parents, who were both elite athletes. The worst part is that he looks frazzled even when he is in garbage time, where he’s playing along the legit scrubs of the NBA. He still parks on the 3 point line hoping someone throws the ball to him, while his fellow trash minute teammates are inkling to chuck up shots themselves. I have notice that he is the easiest guy to guard, because he doesn’t move around. He plants himself in the 3 point line and stays there, allowing his defenders to cheat. And the crazy part is that when someone does actually give him the ball and he’s wide open he passes the ball to someone who is being guarded. It’s frustrating, though there are some special plays where he can steal the ball like a magician; but they are too infrequent and can’t make up for his negative plays. Granted Reed isn’t making many bone headed plays, he is playing bad because he looks scared, his shot is snake bit, and he is playing so conservative that it slows down the offense, and allows the defense to set up against the Rockets.
I have heard that he is "wonder boy" in practice and doesn't miss a shot in warm ups. Needs an extended stay in G-League, but apparently the coaching staff wants to keep him here.
Two years ago he wasn’t a top 30 priority out of high school. Had one good year at college as a backup and got drafted #3 by the Rockets. They fell for the HYPE TRAIN on an unproven player with a lot of risk attached to picking a guy like that at number three. He’s the next Curry everyone in the media touted. Read my Zach Edey posts at draft time that became quite popular because I rationally explained why he needed to be taken over Sheppard. Reed played one tournament game in his college carrer at Kentucky and played almost 30 minutes (against Oakland) and scored zero points and his team list in the first round. His dad Jeff Sheppard averaged a whopping 2.3 points per game in his NBA career. The red flags were there, but were ignored by the ludicrous next Curry narrative. Generally guys who can’t start in college and are not top 30 HS prospects aren’t taken number freakin 3 in the NBA draft after just one flukish season. Now my boy Edey was back to back NCAA player of the year and averaged 30-15 taking his team to the Championship game and scoring 40 points against Clingan….now that’s a top 3 pick (for reference purposes only). Taking Edey or Clingan made sense as we have to deal with 7’6” Wembly for the next ten years plus. Rockets blew it and the stark reality is that Aaron Holiday is a better player and was good enough as a backup to FVV and Amen at the point guard position.
Maybe he’ll make the all rookie practice squad Rockets were being offered two later firsts by other teams trying to grab the number three pick and they turned them down. Imagine if we had traded down and grabbed Edey and Knect just how different the future of this team would be. I’ll be patient and wait to see if he improves after his upcoming G-League stint, but right now think that draft altered what could have been a future of basketball dominance for the Rockets. It makes a significant difference. Imagine if the Rockets had taken Sam Bowie instead of Hakeem Olajuwon or Harold Minor instead of Yao Ming in the draft. Different outcomes that can’t be easily reversed.
It’s good to hear he is showing up to practice! So the NBA thing may just a mental hurdle for him. Which is what we’d be hoping be the case.
That's reassuring. I'm hopeful he gets it together eventually. It might be a bit before he gets another shot.
Yeah but the other 98% of he time Reed was only tied to Houston. Even before he worked out for them. I mentioned a few times before the draft that Reed had trouble playing in big moments in college. Every moment is like that in the NBA for him now.
Na that’s incredibly silly. We’re not a tanking or injured team, no rookie was gonna play meaningful minutes here this season.
He seems to have the yips. Hope an RGV stint resets him. I admire Jamal Shead's game. They love him in Toronto. Udoka would like using that dog off the bench-- think terror triplets. Go Coogs!
I'm not stressing about missing out on any specific players from this draft class. If any of them are going to be stars, we still don't know which ones. Whole draft was a crapshoot full of mediocre (relatively speaking) prospects.Completely unsurprising that 22 year old Zach Edey and 23 year old Dalton Knecht are performing better at the gate than the freshmen and sophomore players who got drafted. Doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be all-stars--they may already be near their peaks as basketball players. It does suck that Reed is not looking like a useful bench player, which I thought was his floor. Still time to turn things around but it's been ugly. This draft was never likely to make or break the franchise though.
Every NBA player makes most shots in practice. Seems like he’s mentally just weak and maybe overrated by scouting.
While I’m being hard on the Reed pick, I do believe there is a scenario where we can still get value out of the kid. He looked fantastic against lesser summer league competition under a different system. As someone else posted, he struggles moving without the ball and generally stands in a corner uninvolved in a hunched over shooting ready stance. He does have the shooting ability to be a shorter Matt Bullard type player where when Hakeem got double teamed he’d pass it out to Bull who would always hit the wide open three and did fantastic in that role (was one of my favorite Rockets). I envision that Reed can be quite successful in that same type of role, but the Rockets coaching staff needs to incorporate that into their offense and they thus far have failed to do that. Just one game this season I’d love to see two things happen: 1) Adams sets a pick for a wide open Reed three; and 2) Sengun be gracious enough when triple teamed to send the ball back out to the wide open Reed on the perimeter. Never has happened to date and part of the reason I am calling Reed a potential bust is because the coaches on this team have failed to instill any confidence in the kid because they do not make and set up three point plays for him. They want his game to mimic Amen’s game where no plays are designed for him and he just goes and gets it. Wrong coaching style for a set three point shooter like Reed. Rockets need to adjust and make plays designed to Reed’s strengths and he can still be a valuable asset to this team.
