Why are we resistent to sending him to the G League? We cannot give up on a #3 pick this soon but we do need him to develope One cannot be picking BUSTS at #3 So I am hoping he comes around Rocket Rive
Poor take. Castle has done some NBA things at a high level already. Obviously shooting isn't one of them but dude is already an NBA level defender and makes some great reads. He's a very valuable two way player if he learns to shoot(and he should improve here). Reed has proven he can be a liability defensively and he doesn't bring the high level shooting to offset it. FWIW, i think Reed will be fine long term - he can be a rotational NBA player once the game starts to slow down for him but he is clearly not comfortable playing at the pace he needs to be AND he doesn't have the size athleticism to hang with the average player.
Rockets might send him there after the trade deadline.. not sending him sooner just means he's a trade chip FO don't want to further lower its value.
Its backed by fact. When he stops shooting at 40% range TS I'll stop calling him Brickpard. You realize Anthony Bennett has higher TS than Brickpard? And by several percentage pts too. Bennet has a career TS% of 45, Brickpard now at 41 which is the lowest TS% I've ever seen in all the years I've followed basketball. Edit: ok I guess Joe Chee is worse now that I checked so Brickpard is the second lowest TS I've ever seen. Think about how much of a bricklayer you have to be worse than Benett??? Its to the point calling Westbrook "Westbrick" is just an insult to WB cuz then you are putting him on the same level as Brickpard. I'm one of the most unbiased people here in the forum when a guy plays bad I criticize him and when a guy plays great I praise them. Unlike other people here who mock JG even when he went off for 30 against a bad team but then give so many excuses for Brickpard when he is performing worse than Benett against that same bad team.
Rockets might of gotten played - players know some folks are stat geeks and only look at % … players will shoot a certain % in a game and then stop shooting to protect that % Reed took 8fga - 4.4fga were 3s meaning he only needed to hit 2 3s a game for his 50% from 3 That’s way too small of a sample size to draft him where we did …. we needed to draft someone taking 15+ shots a game
I think g league time is totally reasonable. I was really always in that camp. It was good for Cam and Amen last year.
The answer is probably that he actually is an asset to the main club, or at a minimum not hurting the club, even with his limited contributions up to this point. Holiday has obviously been substantially more efficient scoring in both of their limited PT this year, but there are some things Reed does better than Holiday. If it's just a matter of Reed needing to hit one or two more threes a week to get to 38% shooting from 3 he's going to be a better player than Holiday for the team this year. I personally think he should go down to RGV for a week and play ~3 games or so to get some confidence with his shot, but I think that's Ime's thinking. Also, you need to adjust your "#3 pick" expectations and look at Reed more like he would've been picked ~10th in a normal draft class.
That Bobby's line of thinking and thats wrong lol. What Bobby is saying is if Brickpard only made 6 more threes he'd be shooting 38%. But thats because Brickpard only takes 2 threes a game so obv if he shot 100% for 3 games straight his numbers would be better. Brickpard only took 68 threes and only made 19. Even if he made 10 straight 3s his 3 pt will only be at 37% (29/78). I think if Brickpard can raise his percentage to 33% or Jalen level it would already be an extremely successful season cuz even that is a major challenge.
He pushes pace up the court and is a lot more active defensively. He gets into the paint and finds shooters better as well. Both of those guys haven't played much this year so there's limited data points on all this. But it's pretty obvious to me watching Reed and watching Holiday both this year and last that Reed is capable of things Holiday is not. If Holiday is going to have 60% TS for the rest of the year and Reed is going to have 40% for the rest of the year, then Holiday will overall be better of course.
That doesn't make sense. You still need to hit 2 out of 4 shots every game to be able to "fool" people to think that you are a 50% shooter. And if he was thinking about this while playing in-game on a powerhouse team that tried to win every game, he's smarter than we give him credit for.
Sheppard is very smart, thats why he was able to do some weird trick that boosted his vertical which he admitted afterwards. Just cuz he is smart isnt necessarily a good thing for the Rox, being smart to appear better than what you really are is bad for us. Production is what matters at the end of the day. Tricks only work up to a point like when he got clowned in MM.
in 32 games he took more than 10 shots 10 times He only attempted more than 5 3s 9x He also shot under .333 from 3 10x literally look like 1-3 was his cutoff, he wouldn’t attempt another 3 that game but if he was 2-3 he would continue to shoot https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/reed-sheppard-2/gamelog/2024
You also have to think whats the use a of a shooter who just shoots less than 4 a game? Even if he makes 75% of his shots thats a very marginal effect on the game.
Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like he's more of a hot/cold player. When he's on, he's on (think Chicago game, 4/5 from 3).
I think you are trying too hard to discredit his college shooting. He was literally tied for 2nd in 3pt attempts on the team. And what's wrong with stopping shoot when you know you are not hot? You want him to be like FVV and JG? Again, he still needed to hit 75 of his 144 shots to reach 52%. He has shot less than half of that number of attempt in this season. And you are saying the college sample size is too small? And you think the much smaller NBA sample size is somehow more reliable?
