This is astute. Bogdanovic I think is a target that makes a lot of sense, given how Reed is trending. Bogi can be a shooter and handler / initiator vs. second units, isn't great defensively but at least has solid size to not disrupt our switching, and his contract (1 guaranteed year remaining after this one at $16M, then a team option for $16M) fits our plans really well, like you described. He's also just kind of a dog, who I'd trust in big spots. The downside is he's 32, has had some durability issues, and he hasn't been much of a part of ATL's success this year, which is why he's on the trade block and roughly neutral market value as an asset on his contract IMO. Not saying I would do this, because I wouldn't close my position on Reed's potential so early, but we know ATL considered Reed at #1 in the draft -- If Ime / Stone just don't see it with Reed and want to cash him out into future value sooner rather than later, I could something like the below under consideration, draft compensation flexible if it looks like the SAC pick will convey this year: HOU In: Bogdan Bogdanovic 2025 SAC FRP top 12 protected (converts to 2026 top 10 protected, then SRP's) ATL In: Reed Sheppard Steven Adams
hey I’m with you. I’d like to do a Jalen for Fox straight up if possible. Just looking to upgrade the backcourt generally. I do think the arguments against super maxing non-top 20 players are compelling. We may be better off passing on Fox all together. We’ve got a lot of our own players we need to extend, and we’ll be up against the cap before we know it. I’m good being patient and holding out for a true top 10-15 player.
I don’t see the Rockets giving up on a 3rd overall pick in his Rookie season just for a mid FRP even if it is Sacramento’s. I also don’t see them trading Adams unless it’s to an east contender who is desperate for a big and is willing to part with a late FRP. Maybe NYK? If I am the Rockets then I would be willing to offer expiring contracts (not Adams) and a couple 2nd round picks for Bogdanovic. Idk if that’s enough for ATL but maybe the good faith gained from the Griffin trade and the lure of clearing the books a bit for this offseason will entice them to agree.
I think the Kings want to clear space for Ellis to play more. I don’t think they would be willing to throw him into the trade.
What about trading for Coby White? He’s career 37% 3pt shooter with a 2:1 assist to TO ratio. He’s only 25. Not a star but a very good guard and he’s been in bulls trade rumors. With Giddy and Dosunmo it’s not inconceivable that the Bulls would move him. He could be a really good backcourt player for us.
I’d be very surprised if the Bulls decide to move White. Their priority will be moving Lavine and selling their fan base on a future with White/Giddy.
Coby is struggling a bit this year. Partly because Giddey is the on ball guard instead of him. Their Giddey experiment is at expense of Coby developing, forcing Coby to learn a different role. This also means his market value might become artificially low. It is someone to keep an eye on.
No, no, no. The Rockets have too many assets for this kind of trade. Reed has a lot more value than that.
This could and should grow because VV is in his last year of contract and no one is pushing to replace him. White is a fit with us. Coach type of player. Today and tomorrow. VV’s cap could help retain some rookies coming off contracts.
Expand it.... ATL - HOU - SAC ATL: Landale (HOU) + Lyles (SAC) SAC: Capela (ATL) + Tate (HOU) + SRP via HOU HOU: Mathews (ATL) + Huerter (SAC) Lineups Sengawd & Shooters: FVV - Huerter - GBird / Reed - Dillon - Sengawd Runnin Rox: Holiday / Reed - Jalen - Amen - Cam / Tari - Bari
Nothing Houston specific but they cover a lot of players. From this list I am targeting LaMelo. Fox is not what we need. He isn't a good shooter and not a true 1a. Ball is.
Could get in on this.... BRK: Konchar (MEM) + Tate (HOU) or Landale (HOU) MEM: DFS (BRK) HOU: Kennard (MEM)
Random thought/question what would you be willing to give up to get Ausar? I know it doesn’t help the Rockets shooting, but I have a dream of reuniting the twins. Cam and a mid FRP? Probably an over pay, right? I don’t advocate trading any of the 7 but I might be convinced to do so in order to have Amen and Ausar on the Rockets.
I’ve wanted Kennard on the Rockets since he was on the Clippers. His contract was never as bad as people made it out to be. I was really disappointed when the Grizzlies got him. My only hesitation with trading for him this year is that he is a free agent this offseason. Maybe the Rockets could sign him to the NTMLE this offseason and use trade assets for something else this season.
I think he would cost too much. ATL is trying to win games and improve around their young stars. They have an amazing talent in Jalen Johnson, and long wings around him. They are probably looking for a backup point who has defensive chops and can fill out a 3 guard rotation with Trae and Daniels, and would be looking to move Capela first
Players like Jonas Valančiūnas, Malcolm Brogdon, Kelly Olynyk, Bruce Brown, and Jordan Clarkson are expected to be available for second-round compensation, per @TheSteinLine. “Other veterans believed to be available for second-round draft compensation with 39 days to go until the trade deadline include Valančiūnas and Brogdon, Toronto's Kelly Olynyk and Bruce Brown and Utah's Jordan Clarkson.”
What would it take to get Collin Sexton? His percentages are great, and he can actually beat his man off the dribble unlike Fred. I know the defense is shaky but he’s a good athlete with a plus wingspan. I can’t help but think Ime could get him up to speed on that end. Could salary matching plus 2nd rounders get it done? I’m just tired watching Fred build brick houses. If we’re gonna let our guards chuck let’s at least get one who can hit shots.
