Altuve is not moving to the OF, that's just silly. He barely has the arm to play 2b. If Bregman were to sign (also not going to happen) Paredes would go to LF. The signing of Walker and Paredes shut the door on Bregman re-signing here and that is fine. We just need one good OF to be contenders the next 3 years.

Luis Robert Jr is the perfect fit, but I think the White Sox are going to wait until the deadline to maximize his worth. Brandon Lowe would also be great, but has 1 less year of control. With Robert we would be contenders 25-27 at the least. Both Lowe and Robert have reasonable contracts and will cost a lot in prospects. I really think we are better off letting Bregman go and maybe a couple of lesser trades or big one with Framber. Winker would solve a lot of problems with a platoon with McCormick.

That’s what Correa thought too. I don’t see anyone offering what Bregman wants.

Correa came within a whisker of getting it.

Diamondbacks just spent $200M on Corbin Burnes -- probably taking them out of contention for Bregman as well. I actually thought Arizona would be a leading spot for him, since he spends a lot of time there and is originally from New Mexico. His options are dwindling.

    OK, let's do this.

Jacob Melton and Rafael Montero for Luis Robert and Andrew Benintendi.

    • White Sox get their CF for the next 6-7 years.
    • White Sox get out from under 3 years of Benintendi's contract.
    • White Sox get a reclamation project reliever who can be flipped at the deadline if he can recapture his 2022 form.
    • Astros get a potential superstar CF for 3 seasons but can let him walk after 2025 if he isn't good or gets injured.
    • Benintendi is an overpriced JAG, but he was OK vs RHP last year (99 wRC+) and is projected for 0.9 WAR so isn't a negative.
    • Montero offsets all but $4M of Benintendi's 2025 salary.
    • $15M in 2026 and 2027 isn't ideal but hopefully Benintendi can scrape up a little value and, big picture, it's not too much in this market.

I think you need more than that for Chicago. Like/ I’d offer Blubaugh and another minor league arm not named Ullola and be ok with that.

People seemed to have forgotten Correa did get what he wanted if not for his medical being found out... but he did get his 300mil deal.

Exactly. Everything went wrong for Correa and he still netted out 7 years for $235 million over his 2 free agency years. He was very close to 14-yrs $385 million if not for the Giants backtracking.

Crane's not doing this, he's moved on, if Bregs wants to do a 3-4 yr deal at 25 mil per year then Crane might reconsider. But that's even doubtful.

Man posters sure are sentimental. I've got a feeling Crane doesn't operate this way and I'm very thankful for this.

If Crane wants a player, he seeks it out personally. He did with JV and has always pushed for extensions. If Breg is sitting there they will figure it out “if” it makes sense.

Depends on if they can trade Pressly/Caratini to create the money. I'm thinking Bregs is gone and that decision was made with the Walker signing. Fans are just wishing hoping for any scenario that Bregs comes back to the Stros. I would rather trade for Robert or sign Winker back on a pennies on the dollar deal than bring Bregs back on a multi year 25 or more dollar deal. Of course I'm not a very sentimental type guy and want the team to be able to have the flexibility to remain contenders for the next 3-5 years.

Of course it wasn't. The point was, at the time even with all the initial concerns, Giants still offered him a ridiculous contract. They got saved from themselves at the end.

Im with you, but I also want to stop pushing my team towards the Chris Carter type hitters and back to the 17-23 Astros who didn’t strikeout.

I doubt the Astros are even considering a Bregman option. Dana Brown said they offered a very competitive contract, and as Bergman’s negotiating team stalled hoping for more; well the Astros moved on like any self respecting Chad would.

Too many fish in the sea to get hung up on a fella who doesn’t figure to age well in baseball; 200 million for 7+ years is risky as can get for a mid tier market team. Bregman may earn his contract, but most Astros fans see that Bregman isn’t anywhere near the 2019 version of elite. That’s like 5-6 years ago, nowadays he looks steady but past his prime.

And yes the Astros are in the 4th largest city in the US, but it’s not like they have national appeal beyond being remembered for the 2017 scandal. I give credit to MLB, they tried hard to make the Astros likable, but the national appeal just wasn’t there; the 2019 World Series made sure to tell us all that there wasn’t going to be a Spurs appeal for the cross I-10 city.

I remember a wasted off season a while back because we were waiting on a player to decide. It doesn't appear we will be fooled twice.

I'm pretty sure Crane said. "Bregman you mean a lot to us and we don't want to play games. This is the best we can do, but we aren't going to wait around." Sounds like the contract offer we gave him is the best anyone was going to do.

I think Crane extended the largest contract offer in franchise history to Bregman, and said “this is the most we will offer; it’s more than we are paying Altuve, who is the most important player in franchise history.” That happened to be <$200m.

The odds of Houston signing Bregman bottomed out (near zero) at the press conference for Walker. They are very slowly climbing with each passing day that Bregman doesn’t sign.
