    https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/12/26/trump-voters-federal-benefits-food/

This article is insane.People are basically voting against their self interests. Even if they cut discretionary spending to 0 the government doesn't have enough revenues to cover it. They would need to cut the social security, medicare, medicaid, and/or defense.

How do poor people decide that voting for billionaires who want to pay less and have less benefits for the poor people is good for them?

I'm not sure why they believed he wont do this, but it's their own fault for believing he won't.

We helped get you in office; please take care of us,” Mosura said, shifting the conversation as though she were speaking to Trump. “Please don’t cut the things that help the most vulnerable.”

The most vulnerable haven't ever been a priority for Trump. You think he cares about them having affordable healthcare, mental healthcare access, or a living wage? Those are the most vulnerable Americans. I don't believe he or his billionaire buddies groveling to be his bestie care much about them nearly as much as how they can make themselves richer or more powerful.

I think it's a matter of they voted against Trump last time and they are still not out of economic hardship. And in 4 years they'll vote the other way because they are still in economic hardship or possibly worse.

This was such a layup for the democrats, they completely missed the ball here.

All they had to do was go show his last term's promises, and how he lied and screwed over his voters......That was their message, he lies, here is how......and they would have walked this.

They spent more time attacking Biden because of his age instead of making that case. I think that whole fiasco about Biden's age after the debate turned a lot of people off. If they had kept a unified front like the Republicans with Donald Trump they probably would've performed better in the election.

Why not just chose better candidates? Joe Biden walked into the 2020 nomination as if he was the anointed one or "his turn" after like what??? Four failed presidential bids? The party that advocates for democracy needs to practice what they preach rather than having preselected candidates.

This country entry and it's voters don't like scripted coached talking points. They love extemporaneous speakers because it shows them that they are more sincere or at least perceived to be more sincere Even if the extemporaneous rants from someone like Trump, sounds like a rant coming from a schizophrenic. Joe biden's problem was when he tried to speak extemporaneously he just mumbled like an old person Sundowning.

Then the Democrats chose Harris, someone who is absolutely horrible at any extemporaneous speaking and sounds like a coached robot almost all the time in public media appearances.

Biden wasn't even the favorite going into to it. South Carolina is where he picked up steam.

Biden won the primary against other candidates like Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Pete Buttigieg, so he earned the right to be nominee in 2020. Then weak democrats like Nancy Pelosi urged Biden to step down because of the polling data. Due to immense pressure to step-down, Biden did the next best thing by endorsing Harris. Holding an open primary would've probably failed as well and fractured the party even more. It seemed to me at the time like a power grab. Even after Harris losing, some Democrats are still blaming Biden for stepping aside too late which is nonsense.

Biden's old but he's not senile. Trump is almost as old and said a lot of genuinely racist and crazy things on the campaign trail that would've immediately ended anyone else's campaign (e.g. immigrants are taking black jobs, repeating baseless claims that Haitians in Ohio were eating cats, simulating fellatio with a microphone on stage, talking about Arnold Palmer's penis size, etc.). He made a lot of promises that he's now walking away from (e.g. lowering the price of groceries).

Trump is an absolute joke of a president and it's shameful that he was elected. If the Republicans won with a candidate like Mitt Romney or John McCain, I could understand. But I don't understand anyone supporting Trump while ignoring all the racism and authoritarian values he promotes.

Biden was the heavy favorite going into the primaries. That was the whole reason Kamala went after him in the debates. He then proceeded to get trounced in Iowa, NH, & Nevada, leading people to start believing Bernie had overtaken him as the favorite. But then SC saved Biden.

Right wing media does a very good job of creating a separate reality and to be clear right wing media is winning the internet.

If Trump spends like Biden, and we all know Trump never holds back, then another 4 years at 1.5T in deficit spending (with NO mild recession) will set the debt around 42,000,000,000,000.

If we make the numbers unimaginably abstract, no one will bother to work it out, right?

It will be interesting . . .. cause he wants to eliminate the debt ceiling
I am still trying to figure out how that will reduce the debt
