I've recently found out that I've been continually victimized by large corporations without even noticing. As it turns out, I've apparently been a victim time and again. The other day I got a letter in the mail telling me that I was a member of a class action lawsuit against DirecTV over their NFL Sunday Ticket Package. I'm not sure how I've been wronged, but the pain and suffering caused by DirecTV is apparently worth about $10. At least that's in the neighborhood of what I'm supposed to get in the Class Action settlement. Today I found out that Blockbuster Video has somehow screwed me, too. Apparently they've overcharged for late fees or something like that. I wasn't aware that one could overcharge for a service that they set the price on themselves, but that's apparently been the case. I'm not sure what Blockbuster owes me (I think they're just giving away movie rental coupons as the settlement). Over the past year, I've also gotten several notices regarding Class Action lawsuits where I was a potential member of the class. I think there was a Southwestern Bell one, soem software company, and I know I got at least two others, but I cannot recall what they were for. All these years, I've been wronged and didn't even know it. Of course, a less kind interpretation would be that people are suing over stupid, piddily little things. Am I truly wronged by not being able to buy NFL Sunday Ticket games ala carte instead of as one big package? If Blockbuster charges a different rate for late returns than they do for their regular rates, have I really been wronged? Is it really worth the time and effort to litigate these things? I can't imagine being the guy who was so outraged about having to pay a late fee at Blockbuster that he goes to a lawyer and gets the lawsuit rolling. Oh well, I suppose I can just consider any gains I receive from these class-action lawsuits to be freebies or gifts or something. ------------------ Houston Sports Board Film Dallas.com AntiBud.com
I had been 'wronged' by one of my credit card companies... there was some class action lawsuit against them... and the settlement?? A $5 credit on my statement. Thanks... what was this credit for again? rH ------------------ visit: The Psychedelic Groove House of Rockets Basketball Love!
Now I feel left out - I don't think I've ever gotten one of these freebies, and I most definitely have been the victim of a Blockbuster late fee! I think these law suits are petty, quite often, but I'm also glad that SOMEONE is watching out for consumer rights. It may seem minor in each individual instance, but if nobody was on guard, it might start piling up. It's sort of how I feel abou the ACLU: 8 times out of 10, I think their intervention is probably unnecessary, but I'm still glad there's an organization that *always* stands up for civil rights. ------------------ A few years back on the Senate floor... The named plaintiff often gets a pretty decent settlement out of the deal - much better than that coupon you got from Blockbuster. And of course the attorneys get filty rich out of the deal, so they often look for this type of case even though supposedly lawyers aren't supposed to commit barratry (actively instigating lawsuits). That $10 you are getting from DirecTV is a great deal, relatively speaking. Usually only coupons or rebates are offered to the unnamed class members for consumer suits. ------------------ Bingbong was set up, led to an untimely death in the prime of his life for no other reason than pure malice. As an attorney, I think class actions like this are nothing short of laughable. The consumers get rougly $10 and the lawyers walk off with close to $70 million!!! Great! Sometimes you have to write things off to "life sucks" and avoid a lawsuit. The funny part of this is that someone may have originally got the ball rolling and went to attorney seeking to have this "wrong" righted. That poor sap then becomes part of a class so the attorneys can make more money...and he/she ends up with a $10 credit on their next bill!!! ------------------
bROS YOU ARE NEVEREVER GOIN TO BELIVE THIS!!!! I just got $22.31!!!!!!!!! from the Equifax data breach CA. Easily covers my time and effort to chase down when people fake my identity and the pain in the ass of always having to remember to unfreeze all three credit bureaus every time I want to use my credit! There really is justice and Christmas miracles do happen. Thank God for the lawyers who brought me this boon and gosh darn it they deserve that $77m. Oh, and to make it better, they gave it to me in Visa from so I can spend it wherever I want and not have to bother with pesky banks! I'm off to sacrifice a goat to show my gratitude.
read the op, southwestern bell, direct tv, blockbuster..? wat. i sorta know about blockbuster from captain marvel.
Wonderful deal for plaintiff’s attorneys. I always forget to sign up for my $3 random settlement that is offered every 4 years.
