I have Windows XP on my PC and my g/f's dad gave me a printer from his office. it's a Brother XP1240 or something like that. It's on the list of printers I can install without having to have a disk from the control panel. When I print a test page, it doesn't detect I have any paper and I have plenty of paper. My trey is full of paper and it's slid all the way in up under the printer. Isn't that where it's suppose to be, and it just sucks the paper up from there? I went through TBShooting and that didnt help. What can I be doing wrong?
I have a Brother HL-1240 at home......nice little printer. Unfortunately, it sounds like a hardware issue. It appears that Windows has recognized the printer, but there has to be some type of (probably spring loaded) gadget in the printer that senses paper. It doesn't appear that yours is working. Sorry not to be any help, but I can't think of anything else. Make sure the little slider thing (to select between legal and letter) is firmly in place. You should at least be able to print single sheets through the feeder slot in the front.
I would go to brother's website and get their driver I didn't see any "XP1240" but there is a HL1240 (monochrome laser) http://solutions.brother.com/hl1200/download/drivers1240.html
i'm with chump. i've had problems with "built in windows drivers" too. sometimes it doesn't work until you get the one from the website.
Good thing somebody started a thread. I have a hp deskjet 5150 but during installation of software my computer never recognizes that a printer is there. I even tried just adding a printer from XP but my computer isn't recognizing it still. It's plugged in a USB port and I have tried all 4 ports that are on my computer. Any suggestions?
you sure those USB ports work? they show up in windows device driver and they're enabled in bios? you've tested other USB devices in them?
I literally chucked my last HP printer out a 22 story window (don't worry it was at 3am when nobody was down there on the street). HP printers are not only frustrating and lemon-esque, they are evil and malicious, too. They are the VW's of printers.
I have had my HP 812c for four years, with no problems. It was considered a great low-end printer when it first came out. Don't know about these days...
exactly. i dont have the internet at my house so im at my GF's now, but as i recall i was wondering what that was and tried to move it to see if it did anything. I dont recall being able to get to it.
my mom just gave me a 9 month old HP all in one. It is registering a carriage jam error. She told me if I could fix it I could have it. I called HP they told me to check a couple of things. The problem is there is no jam. It just keeps saying that. HP then tells me ther eis nothing you can do but they would give me a coupon for like $20 off a new printer.
I agree with a lot of the newer HPs. And GOD, their drivers for the 4000 and 4100 series printers are pure evil! Those printers totally rule, but the drivers are so awful, I want to smash the printers to bits! I am all about Samsung printers right now. The ML-1450 is the greatest printer I've used in the past few years. The 1750 looks awesome too.
