Missed the game tonight, but man he seems to always have these type of "highlight plays" and acrobatic finishes that so very few can do at this level. He is quite good at the rim, its often the getting there that presents issues.
Played only 24 minutes. 3/8 shooting, 6 points. 2 boards and 1 assist. Good thing they were playing Charlotte.
I’m buying Jalen Green stock here. It’s a "buy-low" opportunity, IMO. Looked at his stats and by the numbers he’s having the worst year of his career: lowest 3P% lowest FTR lowest AST/GM highest TO/GM lowest ON/OFF +/- However: the stats now compare pre-AllStar this year to FullYear for years 1-3. He usually plays better after the ASG If his shooting improves post ASG teams would pack less against him and this will open things. His FTR will hopefully improve and that’s the main factor for him. if he can get more to the line all his metrics improve. He plays harder this year, not the same ballerina from before. This may be affecting some of his skill metrics, but at some point the hope is he’ll get the hang of getting hard AND well…
He had 4 games where he had 5 or less attempts within those 10 games and he went for 2/16 And today 0/3 against charlotte. It doesn’t look like he is shooting less to find better shots.
I am fine with the game he had tonight, we blew them out, his production wasn't needed, so he let others have some fun tonight. Plus it was a b2b and he did have a good game the first night so this was a deserved day off for him.
No I said the volume and sample size is too small to determine there's been significant improvement.... And no his handles are not fine... It's often too high or too loose and he has issues sustaining his dribble in the halfcourt... In transition it's much less of an issue, but if Amen was the lead guard he'd absolutely turn the ball over at significantly higher rate... He's 5th in usage on the team, but he has the highest turnover percentage of everyone that's in the rotation. Of course he's a better finisher than FVV lol... Idk why that was a point... Amen is a great finisher.... FVV has never been a great finisher in his career obviously.... Jalen isn't a terrible finisher at all... He's 71% at the rim... that's great. Idk why you mentioned their time in the NBA in this context... Anyone that knows ball... knows that "handles" is a skill that virtually every player has largely developed in their formative years as a hooper before they ever step foot onto an NBA court.... There's a degree of natural ability/feel and 99% of the time the handles you enter the league with don't become markedly better as handles are probably the most difficult skill to acquire or improve in basketball... Significant improvements in dribbling is rarely acquired after a prospect gets into the league... And in general, if you don't have the handle already, the team is vastly unlikely to allow you to dribble a lot... Think about it... How many players came into the league without a good handle and eventually developed a good or great handle? Even Giannis and Kawhi who developed tf out of their draft ceiling... they had decent dribbling skill as rookies to begin with, but still today they both have fairly average handles at best.... Giannis gets by with it cuz he's such a huge explosive physical freak that can overpower and finish over almost every defender.... Kawhi has never been a primary ball handler... He gets by cuz he's a bucket getter and a three level scorer that doesn't need much of a handle to score effectively or get his shot off... He can score in the post and out of the triple threat. This is why you don't just look at stats, but you apply context to them... Amen is a role player/beneficiary on offense... He scores in transition on drives and largely away from the primary actions in the halfcourt... From open catch and shoot, getting a pass on a cut to the hoop, or crashing the glass from the weak side and getting a put back... Defenses are geared away from him and he's never the primary focus of the defense... defenders also sag off of him on the perimeter routinely. All of Amen's 3pters are catch and shoot... 100% of his makes are catch and shoot and 100% of his 3pters are assisted. 52% of his 2pt field goals are assisted. 55% of Jalen's 3pters are assisted. 29% of Jalen's 2pt field goals are assisted. Jalen also gets far more defensive focus or attention... On or off ball.... Also Jalen shoots 35% on catch and shoot 3s... Not great, but still efficient unlike Amen and comparatively a much higher sample size.
Nice take Air Canada I'm a believer that the Rockets future will be : PG) Amen (6'7") SG) Jalen Green (6'5") SF) Cam Whitmore (6'7") C) Sengun (6'11") basketball-reference.com listed Cam Whitmore as 68% at SF (29% at PF and 3% at C) and has shot 40% from 3 in the three games he has played in since coming back from the G-league. Amen and Cam have such power when driving to the rim but right now Amen needs to continue working on his shooting while Cam needs to work on passing more. Jalen Green, looks like he is anemic or something, still having endurance issues. He should get accustomed to that eventually. I saw Capela struggle with endurance for years. I'm thinking the Rockets might be able to pull off a Booker(@SF)/Tyus Jones trade. That buys Amen and Cam Whitmore further time to develope. Question to me is PF? I was leaning towards Tari long term but leg problems for Tari has me worried and thinking about Terrence Jones and his leg nerve issues. So Jabari is still in the picture.
Lol only Kobe is winning his first ring at age 21, and winning 3 championships at age 23. All this while averaging 15 minutes per game in his 1st year and 26 mpg in his 2nd year.
His home-road splits are problematic. He’s putting up all star numbers onthe road and turning into a pumpkin at home. It’s clearly all mental with Jalen which is why is why I don’t give up on him.
We have a 5-game homestand and we should win 3 or 4 of them. It's a good opportunity for him to get over this and perform really well. In his last 11 games (via Jackson from Locked On Rockets) he's averaging 21.7 points on 60 TS% and 47/36/88 splits. Has played good defense during this stretch too. Only problem is his assists are too low (2.1) and turnovers too high (2.8) which is very unlike him, I expect that to change. Perhaps he's finding his place in the offense and the offense is making some space for him. I think the team in general including the coaching staff are realizing that we need points outside the Sengun/FVV PnR however we can get them as long as they're relatively efficient. If that means a 21ppg Green rather than a 25ppg Green, that would be great for now.
I actually want to ask someone who believes Green is a failure of a lottery pick whether averaging 26 ppg at age 22 on a 20 win team (Booker) or averaging 20 ppg on a potential 60 win team at age 22 is more impressive?
